Located in the beautiful Eastern Townships region of the province of Quebec, Bishop’s is a unique English-language university that offers its students an undergraduate university experience like no other.

Bishop’s boasts some of the smallest class sizes in the country, and passionate, supportive professors who truly care about the success of their students. The result is that all BU students receive personalized attention and valuable support throughout their studies. Bishop’s connects its students to an array of outstanding learning opportunities, including internships and exceptional training experiences. These opportunities enable students to strengthen their skills and obtain valuable professional experience, all while working to complete their studies. Bishop’s creates a unique social environment for its students, one that fosters personal growth and development. This caring and supportive atmosphere nurtures students, and helps transform them into confident and skilled leaders who are ready to make a difference in this world. These elements, when combined, form the essence and the soul of the Bishop’s community.

At Bishop’s, we strive to be:

  • A community that instills confidence, courage and a sense of responsibility in its students.
  • A place that nurtures personal and intellectual freedom and fosters enduring friendships.

Bishop’s University is a predominantly residential, undergraduate university. Our primary concern is offering students a quality education in the fine arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business and education. The residential aspect of our small size (2,400 full-time students) encourages students to immerse themselves in the complete Bishop’s experience.

Bishop’s is located in the bilingual community of Lennoxville, a suburb of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, located about 1.5 hours southeast of Montreal. The Eastern Townships region is known for offering a safe and welcoming atmosphere, exceptional outdoor recreational opportunities, and a great quality of life.

Bishop’s University’s 550-acre campus features 25 buildings, including seven residences, two libraries, two theatres, outstanding classrooms, laboratories, athletic facilities, a sports and recreation centre that includes three gyms, an indoor pool and an 800-seat arena, a historic chapel, a music recital hall, and a daycare. A duck pond and wildlife refuge, 10 tennis courts, an outdoor pool and a golf course are also found on the campus.

Bishop’s University was founded as Bishop’s College in 1843, under the sponsorship of the Right Reverend G.J. Mountain, the Anglican Bishop of Quebec, with the assistance of a group of clergy and laymen from the Eastern Townships.

In 1853, the University received a Royal Charter granting it the right to confer degrees. Bishop’s remained under the aegis of the Church of England until 1947, when the Corporation of the University was reconstituted as a nondenominational body. Since this time, Bishop’s University has welcomed students from all backgrounds, cultures and creeds.

Bishop’s University boasts some of Canada’s best university professors. Our 115 full-time faculty members are involved in extensive research and publishing endeavours. However, they have chosen to work at Bishop’s because they love teaching and working with undergraduate students.

We put great emphasis on personal contact between students and professors, and favour small classes and frequent seminars, laboratories and tutorials.

Bishop's University has been a transformative experience for my child, with dedicated staff guiding and inspiring remarkable academic growth every step of the way.

My son graduated with distinction from Bishop's University this year. He moved to Bishop's from the University of Toronto after completing half a year. The 1,800 student class sizes he was experiencing at U of T left him lost and searching for a more. We visited the campus on Oct 2014 and after the tour he made the decision to attend and has never looked back. He went from being lost to excelling academically even becoming a teaching assistant. During his time at Bishop's he developed a passion for journalism and has found his path in life. The education is definitely the main reasoning but the countless friends he has made, the professors who interacted with him on a first name basis, challenging his thought process and the memories/life experiences of his time at Bishop's has shaped him into a mature, social, independent and ambitious individual.

the campus is beautiful. the location is great, a lot of nice and great people there. it is not too expensive compared to other schools, even with all the money being put into new renovations. the outside image of the school is spectacular and is always aiming to improve, while keeping some of the older and more traditional buildings around and in good conditions. there are some useful and helpful programs, and the faculty makes a lot of effort to aid students who are in need.

My son went to Bishop when he was barely 18. He was a boy (at least from a parent's perspective). He is graduating this year and is now a balanced, happy, well-educated young man. He cannot stop telling us about how happy he was as a student at Bishop's. Small classes, great community, amazing friends, good professors (though there are exceptions). Even better, he found his call in life and is motivated to pursue his graduate studies next year at the University of Montreal. Thank you Bishop's.

Very welcoming environment. Super friendly and enthusiastic support staff of the student community. Very unequal faculty quality with teachers of unparalleled competence and others completely outdated in teaching. Stay very appreciated for me.

I found myself at Bishop’s. 2.5 years later I have accomplished more than I could have ever imagined both personally and professionally. I owe it all to my beautiful home away from home. #foreveragaitor

Bishop's University is so special. It gave me friends that became family, professors who truly cared, and a community that supported and helped shape who I am today. Thanks for the best 4 years of my life.

Simply awesome. Formation is both academic and experiential, as such student integration in both public and private life after graduation is great. In summary Bishop's University is the way to go for a holistic education.
