Alabama State University was founded in 1867, in Marion, Ala., as a school for African-Americans. The school started as the Lincoln Normal School with $500 raised by nine freed slaves now known as the Marion Nine, making ASU one of the nation’s oldest institutions of higher education founded for black Americans.
Today, Alabama State University, located in Montgomery, Ala., is a widely respected, world-class institution of higher learning which welcomes students of all races. We offer nearly 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs, from our historic teacher education program to our new, high-demand programs in health sciences, new Ph.D. in microbiology and minor in international business.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
My daughter likes the school and doesn't want to leave. HOWEVER.....Trying to speak to someone in financial aid!! Is awful. I've called, left messages and called..AND NOTHING!
I'll have to take a road trip there just to fix somethings that could be worked out over the phone. We are finishing our 2nd year. Just work with the parents ASU!! or you will see your enrollment continue to drop.

Yasmia, you have every right to voice your dissatisfaction about the inadequacies of a school that you are paying for your daughter to attend. If the administration at ASU know that people are noticing and commenting on the school's inefficiencies, maybe they will make improvements for the betterment of all the students housing. Your response to Otis Varner was right on time. Maybe he will realize that he cannot intimidate people with his opinion. HBC have a standard to uphold if they want to attract and retain students.

Alabama State was a true nurturing ground for me. I learned how to be a man ,friend , politician and great communicator. No school or new environment for freshman will ever be perfect, but as upper class men and women you understand there is a job to be done and degrees to be earned, it's at that point you realize it's time to grow up. My life, my ASU, my journey.... priceless.

I am an alumni so you can imagine how excited I was to have my youngest transfer from a PWI to go to ASU. I was so proud of the way that he was able to navigate through the admission process all the way to the changing of his schedule!!! There were a couple of snags but not so extreme that it was frustrating!! #myasu

My daughter started in Aug 2017. It has not been a good experience since she has been there, from the food, to the living situation, to the actual school supporting out of state students. The orientation was a joke, they make it sound like they are there to help and support all students but not really. The communication between staff and students is terrible.. as a parent I can never get any answers, the customer service of the staff is horrible and it appears that all they want is the students money. There is no support for out of state students. There is no transportation (at least for freshman), they cant go anywhere because they aren't allowed to have cars. The school will have shuttles for parties but not for the students to get to the store to buy food or personal products. Let's not talk about the living situation, the dorms need updated period they're charging all this for room and board and my baby cant even eat half the time cause of café hours and the service provided by ARAMARK. I can go on and on but I am going to stop because I am totally disappointed with the school, the staff and the entire situation. I most likely will not be sending her back there.....Scholarship or not....ASU gets a big thumbs down from me.

Neat in appearance and lots of school pride on display. But was fascinated by the history in and around the school.

A SU is the worst school when it comes to the student's financial aid. The staff is not only rude when you call them or see them face to face, they are hard to reach and give you attitude about your money. They do not give you all the information at one time as if they are secret service. If my child didn't want to be there I would take her to another college which is still a option if they don't fix this soon. They need better office management. No wonder attendance is down. #READYTOWITHDRAWFROMHBUSCHOOL
