At the Accelerated Bridge Construction center, we work to solve the infrastructure challenges of the future. And at the Center for Children and Families, researchers work to improve the lives of children suffering from mental health disorders. Our drive to make our world a better place has earned us a distinction few other universities can match: Carnegie R1 Very High Research Designation, the top-tier category for doctoral research universities.

In 1965, Florida Senator Robert M. Haverfield introduced Senate Bill 711, which instructed the state Board of Education and the Board of Regents (BOR) to begin planning for the development of a state university in Miami. An abandoned airfield is an unusual place for the birth of a university. But in the summer of 1969, founding FIU president Chuck Perry gathered three leaders who would help him create his vision.

Butler Waugh, Donald McDowell and Nick Sileo joined the 31-year-old Perry at Tamiami Airport and set up shop in the former air traffic controllers' tower. The tower had no phones, no drinkable water and no furniture. President Perry decided that the control tower should never be destroyed and so it remains standing today at the center of campus, as FIU's Ivory Tower.

From that single building on that abandoned airfield, FIU has grown to be one of the largest universities in the country. The spirit of entrepreneurship born on that summer day thrives at today's FIU.

The education my daughter receives here is nothing short of remarkable, with dedicated faculty who genuinely care and inspire her to reach new heights every day.

I love Florida International University. It's a great school. I love the atmosphere and the Hispanic and Caribbean cultures I've come across. It's a very beautiful campus. If you're looking for a peaceful and quiet atmosphere, then go to the Biscayne Bay campus. If you are looking for a place that has more activities and plenty to do, you should go to South Campus. I love their Barnes and Noble bookstore. Also, you will find more variety in their food court down there. I personally didn't have any problems with school other than the two teachers i had.

Florida International University is a great school. In recent years, it's gotten a lot better. Admissions is a lot tighter, so the programs are consistently getting more competitive and more prestigious. The School of Architecture is well-known and almost all the faculty has graduated from top universities. The Law School was ranked #1 in Florida for bar passing rates for a couple years and the Med School is opening up.I think FIU is a good investment because it's very affordable, the campus is beautiful, the education is good and the internship possibilities of being in Miami are really good as well.

Florida International University is a great university. It's a lot of fun and it's become very prestigious very quickly. The College of Law received the highest bar grades in the state of Florida three times in a row. The College of Business is ranked #7 for undergrads and in the top 20 for grad students (especially int'l business) according to U.S. News & World Report. You'll definitely have a lot of fun here at Florida International University. The dorms are really nice, definitely the nicest in Florida, the people are very diverse, Miami is a fun city with lots of parties, and the campus is absolutely beautiful! GO GOLDEN PANTHERS!

Florida International University provides an environment in which students are more likely to succeed. As a student I always have the peace of mind that the professors tells you from the beginning the expectation of your work. In other words, there were not any surprises. Professors always treats students with respect and individuality. I strongly recommend this school for future leaders.
