The Savannah College of Art and Design was founded in 1978 by Richard G. Rowan, Paula Wallace, May L. Poetter and Paul E. Poetter to provide college degree programs not previously available in southeast Georgia and to create a specialized professional art college to attract students from throughout the United States and abroad. The curriculum was established with dual goals of excellent arts education and effective career preparation for students. Today, with multiple locations and online distance education offerings, SCAD continues to assiduously adhere to these goals.
SCAD was legally incorporated in the state of Georgia Sept. 29, 1978. A board of trustees was established, and the search was begun for a competent faculty and an appropriate facility.
In the spring of 1979, SCAD purchased and renovated the Savannah Volunteer Guard Armory to serve as the first classroom and administration building. The historic significance of the 1892 structure was recognized by its nomination for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Named Poetter Hall in honor of two of the founders, the building remains in active use by SCAD today.
SCAD exists to prepare talented students for professional careers, emphasizing learning through individual attention in a positively oriented university environment. The goal of the university is to nurture and cultivate the unique qualities of each student through an interesting curriculum, in an inspiring environment, under the leadership of involved professors.

Thank you once again for doing your part to keep Edarabia the most trusted education source.
I attended SCAD and received an MFA in graphic design. My degree provided me with the means to change careers successfully. It seems there are a broad range of experiences described by students. Some of overtly critical ones seem ridiculous and are filled with misinformation. Some of the A+ A+ A+ A+ ones seem to ignore some relevant issues. The bottom line is that SCAD has a large student, faculty, and staff population. To that end there is a very mixed bag of talent and achievement. If you decide to go to SCAD, be proactive. Seek the best faculty, work hard, and do not whine like 4-year olds if the work is stressful. No one is here to hold your hand.

I honestly had not heard of SCAD until my senior year and only went there because I was given a very generous scholarship. I must say that it has been the best decision I have ever made. The faculty are industry experienced, the course work is rigorous, and there is so much to do. You get out what you put in, and I am working my hardest to ensure I have a job when I graduate and SCAD's Career Services department does all they can to help you as well. I am majoring in Visual Effects and it still blows my mind that I am learning from people who worked on some of my favorite movies. I also think it's unheard of how some of the biggest companies like Pixar, Rhythm and Hues, Blizzard, and Lucas Arts come to SCAD to recruit on an almost quarterly basis in some cases. If you are truly interested in SCAD then I recommend doing some real research and you will be amazed with what you find.

SCAD is a great place. Anyone thinking of going here really should take the time to visit the campus for themselves. It took me a long time to come to my own conclusions about where to go to college, but I have been very happy with my experience. The amount of support the faculty and staff have shown to me has been amazing. Also, the facilities are truly the best of all of the schools I looked into.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is a university for students who are seeking creative careers. It's for students who are serious about their education and inhibit the drive and motivation needed to succeed not only during their educational career at SCAD, but also in the work field, as well as in life. SCAD offers its students top education, and I am not saying that. The facilities and resources that SCAD offers its students are industry-standard. A SCAD student learns from day 1 how to work with programs and machinery that it being used in today's industry.
