Founded by the General Association of General Baptists in 1885, the University's roots are enriched and well-grounded in Christianity. We provide students with an environment conducive to spiritual growth and a support system which encourages students to live a life of Christian service in their chosen careers. Oakland City graduates are serving the world in a great variety of missional vocations. Additionally, Oakland City University provides the practical experiences necessary for our graduates to be successful in the world of work. These practical experiences are provided through internships, mentoring programs, career counseling and onsite field experiences. Our students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and ethics to make a difference in the world.

After undergraduate success, many of our students return to the campus to continue their educational pursuits, enrolling in graduate programs. Oakland City University offers many programs of study at the masters level, including the Master of Art in Teaching, the Master of Business Administration, and the Master of Divinity.

Oakland City University also offers programs at the doctoral level. Degrees can be earned in the Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and the Doctor of Educational Leadership. These terminal degrees prepare the student in a specialized field, and our graduates are recognized as major contributors to the body of knowledge in their areas of expertise.

Oakland City University has inherited the spirit of freedom and responsibility which was an inescapable part of the Free Church tradition established by General Baptists who succeeded in 1885 in founding a denominational college.

Each student is advised by a faculty member from the department of his or her major. Our serious focus on academics is underscored by OCU's accreditations.

Oakland City University's academic programs are organized into five schools: the School of Arts and Sciences; the School of Business, which includes Adult and Extended Learning; the School of Education; and Chapman School of Religious Studies, which includes Chapman Seminary. Additionally, a variety of classes are offered in our OCU Online learning environment and at several OCU Learning Centers throughout Indiana.
