The mission of the Bethany College Department of Music is to nurture, challenge and guide developing musicians, to train the future educators for both classroom and studio areas, and to provide performance opportunities for students, faculty, and community members. In addition, the Department strives to educate and engage audience members in the central Kansas region and beyond.

The Department of Music has been accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) since 1935. Music has played a central role in the life of Bethany College since its foundation in 1881. Many world renowned artists have traveled to Lindsborg to perform and teach.

Bethany Oratorio Society boasts one of the longest running annual performances of Handel’s Messiah in North America, presenting it at least once annually since 1882, and has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning, National Public Radio, and PBS. This rich tradition of musical excellence remains strong and vibrant to this very day.

At Bethany College, music is for everyone, and students majoring in the sciences and humanities regularly benefit from the wide array of musical ensembles available, just as Bethany music majors benefit from pursuing their specialized studies within the context of a liberal arts environment.Bethany music students study with many different career goals in mind. They gain the knowledge and experience to carry them successfully through graduate study and/or careers.

Bethany College gives students the choice between a major in English education, a major in English, or a minor in English.Through the English program, students master the skills of critical thinking and advanced writing techniques.Bethany also places heavy emphasis on community relations so students gain the skills necessary to be leaders in their fields as well as their communities.

The mission of Bethany College Theatre and Communication is firmly rooted in the mission of the college: to challenge the students to perform the spoken word as a means of communication both clearly and artistically and to nurture in students a sense of confidence and responsibility in their communication art.

The Institutional Review Board reviews proposals for college-affiliated research involving human subjects.Projects are considered “research” if they involve a systematic investigation designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge. Projects for which the end result is publication or public presentation are generally considered research.Human subjects are considered to be involved when interactions or interventions with living individuals are the primary source of data, or when data are collected from a private/confidential source.

Professors or coaches who assess, poll, or interview the students in their classes or teams are generally not engaging in research, and these normal classroom/team activities do not need to be submitted to the IRB.At Bethany, faculty, staff, and students are required to submit their research proposals to the IRB.

At Bethany College in Kansas, the faculty truly invests in each student’s journey, fostering both academic excellence and personal growth—my daughter has blossomed under their guidance!

Bethany College is a beautiful campus where you will learn a lot about yourself and you will make life long friends. The Faculty care about the students and they are always willing to help. Although some of the core requirements are boring your actual major is interesting. Sometimes Bethany can take a little bit of getting used to but if you stick around you will make lifelong friends, recieve a great education and never resent a single day spent there. Our alumni network at BC is great and because it is such a small close network they are great about helping you get internships as well.

I came from a large city of over 1 million residents. There is plenty to do here, Salina is 50k and is only 15 minutes away. All the people have been very friendly and helpful. I have already found a job in my field. Students that I know that wanted to go to med/law school were all accepted to the school of there choice. The school is going through some changes now, but what school isnt. You are always going to have a few complainers, read other posts. College is a time to grow-up and become an adult.

Throughout my time at Bethany College I have had the chance to participate in numerous activities such as Greek life, clubs, numerous events, Relay for Life, editor of the school newspaper (The Tower) and the list goes on. Since the school is small, it gives you the chance to have the ability to do so many things. Furthermore, there are a great deal of alumni who keep in contact with the college and love hearing from students which can often times lead to an internship or even a job!

Bethany College was the best 4 years of my life. I was always told when I was a young girl that college would be the best time of my life, that I would meet the best friends and find a guy I would marry. Obviously as a naive teenager I thought everyone was not telling the truth, but they were. Bethany definitely was a place where I was easily able to meet people and excel in academics. I was able to get a teaching job in PA the first year I graduated, which is very hard to come by, with my degree at Bethany. These comments that I am reading about my alma mater are very disturbing because all of them are untrue. I was able to grow as a person at Bethany with the help of the surrounding faculty as guidance and friends. Bethany is not a drug infested place but the opposite. Could you imagine sending your child to WVU or any other state institution?? What would you find there but drugs awaiting you at your door step. Bethany is a quiet town and a place of its own. I would highly recommend this college to anyone, especially to upcoming education majors.

Bethany was an amazing place to get an overall education. The scenery and local flavor is unique unto itself. The faculty are outstanding. The campus and town is very small so it's important to be able to make your own fun. The friends I made there are people I will know the rest of my life. I met my wife there. The important thing to realize about Bethany is its about opportunity. If you want to do something Bethany is the place for you, if you want something to be done for you, you are better off at a bigger school.
