Located on Sunset Boulevard, this cutting-edge facility serves as the College’s home on the West Coast. Keeping in mind that, in Stéphane Mallarmé words, “to define is to destroy; to suggest is to create”, and keeping in mind that spirit is often intangible and fresh, the “spirit of Emerson” will not be tightly defined. However, to give guidance to the committee, this working definition of “the spirit of Emerson” will serve as a touchstone for the selection process for the Award recipient.
The Spirit of Emerson is a positive outpouring of Emerson College’s activities, interpersonal relations, creations, diversity, and expression including the spirit of all stated in Emerson’s mission statement, President Pelton’s five strategic objectives, our legacy, motto, or/and "E- spirit." E-spirit is electric, innovative energy in thought and creation in the E-age, in which “E” stands simultaneously for “electric” and “Emerson.”
The Spirit of Emerson also includes the deliberate honoring and acknowledging of those who do exude such spirit.
The Spirit of Emerson Committee is now calling for nominations for the 2017 Spirit of Emerson Award. The Award will be given annually to no more than two individuals or groups of individuals each year who have exemplified the College spirit as determined by the Committee.

Emerson College is a warm and accepting environment no matter who you are or what background you might come from. One of the greatest thing about this school is the commitment the student body has to their work. Because Emerson is such a specialized school, the entire student body is incredibly into their majors. At Emerson, it is almost about what you do outside the classroom rather than inside the classroom. There are so many groups and extra curricular activities constantly going on that it would be a shame not to get involved in any of them. And because everyone is so passionate about what they do, the extra circulars are not a simple get together of students, it is consider very serious work. I think one of the bad things about the school, is the will to get out and work. Because there are so many opportunities given to the students at this school, many wish to get involved in their work so quickly that some student leave to start there professional careers. It seems like a downfall, but really it one of the greatest things about the school is that students feel prepared and are prepared for real life opportunities.

I love Emerson. As a freshman, I'm still getting used to the atmosphere, the workload, the city, etc., but I can't imagine being anywhere else. It's not the right school for everyone. If you're not sure what you want to do, this might be a bad choice, but if you know you want to work in communication or the arts, Emerson is a great place to check out.

Emerson College has given me a broad range of opportunities that I feel I wouldn't have had at another college or university. The extracurriculars here really supplement your education and I would encourage anyone who comes here to get involved...every organization on campus is helpful and willing to teach new students. Also a huge benefit: Being a small school, the teachers here actually know your name and care about your work. I love it!

I can only speak for the undergraduate communications program at Emerson. It was very challenging and covered a breadth of material. I feel that an undergraduate from Emerson can compete with any undergraduate from any other program in the country.
