Lake Superior State University is a personal, small-town university that provides a superior blend of liberal and technical studies in the natural setting on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Lake Superior State University is a publicly funded, autonomous state university operated under the control of an eight-member board of trustees, who are appointed to eight-year terms by the governor.
Sault Ste. Marie (pronounced Soo Saint Marie and founded in 1668), in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where we share the international border with Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The two cities combine the advantages of a larger city with the safety and comfort of a smaller town. Between both, the population is about 100,000.
The 115-acre campus is situated on the site of the former U.S. Army’s Fort Brady, fourteen of LSSU’s buildings are listed on various historic registers, creating a unique campus environment. Also, the campus overlooks Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the St. Mary’s River, and the Soo Locks, the busiest locks in the world.
More than 90% of full-time students receive aid.Scholarships ranging from $500 to $8,000 are available to high school graduates and Michigan community college graduates. Students must be admitted to LSSU by March 1 for consideration.LSSU participates in most federal and state financial aid programs.
Lake Superior State University has remained fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association since 1968. This regional accreditation body was established in 1895 and currently oversees more than 1000 higher education institutions from 19 states.
NCAA Division I ice hockey team has won five national championships (including two at the NAIA level) and competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). More than a dozen LSSU players have gone to play in the National Hockey League.

The discipline of accounting provides financial and other information essential to the efficient conduct and evaluation of the activities of any organization. Accounting includes the development and analysis of data, the testing of its validity and relevance, and the interpretation and communication of the resulting information to intended users.
The Lake Superior State University Accounting Department offers two degree programs:The four-year undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. This program emphasizes practical skills and theoretical knowledge in accounting to prepare students for careers in public and private accounting and advanced study within the discipline. This program also provides students with a strong foundation in other business disciplines and general education. Students who complete this program are eligible to sit for the Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant examinations.The two-year Associate in Technical Accounting program is designed for those who do not plan to go to college for four years but desire a working knowledge in the field of accounting. The program provides students with an understanding of the accounting techniques used in business as well as exposure to economics, finance business law and business communication. After completing this program, students may transfer to the four-year program without loss of credits.
The field of biochemistry resides at the interface of the chemical and biological worlds.Biochemists seek further understanding of the chemical processes occurring within organisms and biological systems.For example, their work may focus on the structure and function of biological macromolecules like DNA, proteins and lipids, the fate of molecules in cells, such as the metabolism of glucose, or signaling within or between cells.
Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the biochemist must have a comprehensive understanding of chemistry and biology.Students in the Biochemistry Program at Lake Superior State University take coursework in general chemistry, organic chemistry, instrumentation, inorganic chemistry, toxicology, general biology, genetics and biochemistry. The bachelor of science degree in biochemistry at LSSU prepares students for jobs in medical and life sciences, professional studies in medicine and pharmacy and a variety of graduate programs.

I like Lake Superior State University very much. The classes are challenging, yet fun; and everyone is very friendly and approachable. This surrounding area is amazing if you like nature, and want to be out in the wild. If you like the city, this school may not be for you, but you should still give it a try. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants a quality education at a price that just can't be beat. Two thumbs up!

I really like the geology program in Lake Superior State University. We get tons of field experience, and the faculty in this department are really helpful and knowledgeable. Our department is fairly small, so all the students get to know each other.

Lake Superior State University was a great experience!!!!! You really have to visit the university for yourself to compare it to other schools in Michigan. Make sure you talk to a professor when you visit so you can get the real story.

Lake Superior State University is a great school. The small school atmosphere is great for people who do not wish to be treated like a number. The faculty and staff are very helpful. The program I completed prepared me quite well for the future. I obtained a position in my field within days of graduation. The campus is beautiful, with lots of trees and landscaping. If you are a small town person who likes the outdoors and the safety of a small area like me, then this is the place to go.

The best recommendation I can give to high school and current college students is to get as much experience in your field while you are in school, whether it be in the form of internships or work on campus. Your education will prepare you with the knowledge you need, but work experience will help you learn how to apply the knowledge. This will make you far more marketable when you join the workforce.
