Founded in 1833, Stephens College is an institution committed to her mission: Learn. Grow. Lead. Stephens is resilient and optimistic, faithful to her traditions, and eager to embrace whatever the future may bring. Focused on the creative arts and health sciences, Stephens continues to prepare graduates (whether from our undergraduate residential college, co-educational graduate programs or 90-year-strong Children's School) for the lives that await them – lives of distinction, integrity and service.
Our mission is “Learn. Grow. Lead.”
Inspired by its tradition as an undergraduate women’s college, Stephens College engages lifelong learners in an educational experience characterized by intellectual rigor, creative expression, and professional practice, supported by accomplished faculty, talented staff, and engaged alumnae/alumni. Graduates of Stephens College are educated in the liberal arts, informed by diverse perspectives, and committed to lives of leadership, integrity and service.
We’re proud to be the second-oldest women’s college in the country. We believe that a liberal arts education infused with the theory and practice of women’s leadership is essential to understanding one’s place in the world and the possibilities that lie ahead. Every member of our faculty shares that belief and is here to help you learn, explore and achieve.
Here you can explore your own research projects; challenge yourself with an on-campus internship; or work with real clients on- and off-campus. Go abroad to study, volunteer or tackle an internship. Run the theatre, run the fashion show, run the agency. The sky’s the limit. Seriously.
Stephens College expands the boundaries of campus with a variety of overseas study opportunities. Study abroad programs combine academic study with cross-cultural interaction and complement students' major courses of study and foreign language interests. Other international experiences include volunteer work or international internships. Once introduced to different ways of living, studying, working and communicating, students are prepared for professions and opportunities anywhere in the world.
Stephens College is a safe, education-oriented and community-minded campus that maintains an academic and social environment conducive to intellectual and personal development of students and promotes the safety and welfare of all members of the campus community.
Complementing small class sizes and committed faculty advisers, Stephens offers academic and professional services and other resources to ensure every student strives for and achieves her dreams.
The Student Success Center provides free academic support to Stephens College full time students. SSC tutors may see students individually or work with them in small groups.
Academic advising is a form of teaching and an integral part of each student’s education. Quality, thoughtful advising is something we take seriously at Stephens. A first-year advising program helps students get started on their college journey. Subsequent years of advising focus on career planning. Advisers take the time to listen and are committed to helping students navigate their way.
The Student Success Center provides free academic support to Stephens College full-time students. SSC tutors may see students individually or work with them in small groups. Spontaneous visits are welcome, but for tutoring sessions and test proctoring, appointments are preferred.
At Stephens, we eat, sleep and breathe creativity. And that’s led to a long history of developing creative solutions to help graduate, adult and non-traditional students achieve their dreams.
That might include online programs that give you control over your schedule, evening programs that work around your daytime commitments, or certificate programs that connect you to your future sooner. All are affordable, convenient, and taught by qualified professional faculty who are focused on your success.
