The University of Rochester is one of the country's top-tier research universities. Our 158 buildings house more than 200 academic majors, more than 2,000 faculty and instructional staff, and some 10,500 students—approximately half of whom are women. Learning at the University of Rochester is also on a very personal scale. Rochester remains one of the smallest and most collegiate among top research universities, with smaller classes, a low 10:1 student to teacher ratio, and increased interactions with faculty. The University of Rochester, across all of its schools and campuses, enrolls approximately 5,600 undergraduates and 4,600 graduate students. Its 158 buildings house over 200 academic majors. Additionally, Rochester (along with its affiliated Strong Health System) is the largest employer in the Greater Rochester area and the sixth largest employer in New York.

In its history, five university alumni, two faculty, and one senior research associate at Strong Memorial Hospital have been awarded a Nobel Prize; eight alumni and four faculty members have won a Pulitzer Prize, and 19 faculty members have been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. The departments of political science and economics have made a significant and consistent impact on positivist social science since the 1960s; the distinctive, mathematical approach pioneered at Rochester and closely affiliated departments is known as the Rochester school, and Rochester graduates and former affiliates are highly represented at faculties across top economics and political science departments.

At the University of Rochester, the dedicated faculty truly empower students to excel, and it's heartwarming to witness my child blossom academically and personally in such a vibrant New York community.

Rochester is for me, everything a school should be. Everyone here is friendly, as an incoming freshmen I feel welcomed by everyone, all the upperclassmen and professors are more than willing to bend over backwards to help you. On top of that we have great academic programs, professors are entertaining as well as knowledgeable, our extra curricular opportunities are amazing.

The campus seems like it could be the backdrop for any movie set on a college campus with its pristine landscaping, uniformly brick buildings, and historic architecture. Even into senior year I was still struck by its beauty! The size of Rochester is great- you see new faces every day, but you always run into people you know. Professors are very knowledgeable and have lots of professional experience in their fields, but they are also great teachers. I was fully satisfied with all of my classes in both the natural and social sciences. Having just graduated I can say that Rochester has prepared me in every way to be successful in my future endeavors. I have found the alumni network to be lively and the resources of the university (career center, etc) to still be accessible. My favorite part of the university though was definitely the other students. Everyone is incredibly bright without being arrogant, and while it is definitely a competitive school, everyone is very cooperative and helpful around exam time.

I feel good here. It's true that the social life here and surrounding city is not that good, comparing with big international cities. But I feel this university fits me very much. It is a great place to study! The courses and professors are pretty good.More importantly is the atmosphere, I can feel the smell of study from the air here! And this is what I want for my college. Activities are not bad here but I do not participate much. Anyway, I can not think of a better place than U of R for study. Everything here helps for this goal. If you are a student wanting to spend your college time focusing on study and gaining knowledge for the rest of your life. Here is the place.

UR is a great school. Taking part in the Take-5 program, which is unique to UR, has helped me in my employment. Furthermore, employers have always been interested in the research I have been involved with as an undergraduate.

My time at Rochester was terrific! I was involved in research from the time I arrived until I graduated and never realized how unusual that was until I went to other schools (Yale, Virginia, Penn). Rochester was cold, but I never noticed it. The Ivy league reject thing made people work harder. The only people who confuse Rochester with RIT or some SUNY school don't know anything about higher education, and at least in psychology and medicine those in the know are aware of the high standards at U of R.
