St. Lawrence University is a vibrant, collaborative community of learners who value thought and action. Students tap their full potential as they embrace the natural environment, engage with global challenges, and experience the relevance and adventure of a liberal arts education in a complex and changing world.

The mission of St. Lawrence University is to provide an inspiring and demanding undergraduate education in the liberal arts to students selected for their seriousness of purpose and intellectual promise.

From the streets of New York City to the trails of the Adirondacks, in 21 countries on six continents, in classrooms and labs and studios, St. Lawrence’s learning settings are about as diverse as you can get.

Flexibility: that’s the key word when you think about the liberal arts education we offer you at St. Lawrence. See how many creative ways you can meet our requirements. If none of our three dozen majors or three dozen minors suits you just right, create your own, through our multi-field option. Take an elective you never would have imagined taking, just because you want to. Study in a foreign country. At St. Lawrence, your education is yours to shape.

Our First-Year Program is one of the oldest living-learning programs in the country, helping students make successful transitions from high school to college, intellectually and socially, since 1987. Students live together and study in a team-taught FYP, developing the writing, speaking, and research skills needed for college. They continue to develop these skills in a spring First-Year Seminar.

The St. Lawrence University Fellows program provides new opportunities for student intellectual growth by funding, with a $3,500 stipend, student research by 25-30 students per summer, each student with a faculty mentor. Fellowships enable students to explore lines of inquiry without the immediate expectation of academic credit, in order to lay the foundation for integrative, credit-bearing activity that can take place during the next academic year.

The Center for International and Intercultural Studies encourages students to attend to cultural differences in the context of historical, ecological, political, and economic processes affecting the globe. A St. Lawrence University education includes development of critical intercultural skills necessary to prepare students for responsible membership in the global community. Intercultural learning should be explored within the U.S. and beyond its borders.

Each year, St. Lawrence awards tens of millions of dollars in scholarships and financial aid. Some of this is based on your family's financial need, and the remainder is based on the strength of your application. Each student can only be awarded one scholarship. If a student qualifies for more than one, the scholarship which is the most prestigious will be awarded. St. Lawrence will do everything possible to help you plan your St. Lawrence education in the most responsible and affordable way.

Any student will tell you, there’s more to a college education than going to class. After all, you’re here 24/7, and you can’t be studying all the time! Of course, your classes are important, but you’ll learn valuable lifetime skills in other activities, too: leadership-teamwork-organization-communication-how to conduct yourself around others.

The Office of the Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion upholds and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion at St. Lawrence University. We support the University’s quest to create and sustain a living-learning community that embraces diversity in all its forms.

Career Services is committed to empowering students and graduates to discover their passion, explore their career options, develop their personal career plan, and attain their goals as part of their lifelong educational philosophy.

International Student Services supports the intellectual, ethical, personal, and social development of St. Lawrence's international students as they explore their place and purpose as engaged learners in a diverse and interdependent University and world.
