SUNY Oneonta is a mid-size, public college rooted in scholarship across the liberal arts and sciences. We prepare students for successful careers and the pursuit of advanced degrees.

As a member of the State University of New York, our small classes, opportunities for undergraduate research, and student/faculty interaction are as attractive as our cost.

Nestled in the hills of Central New York, the college’s idyllic setting is ideal for study, adventure and self-discovery. Just “up the hill” from the charming City of Oneonta, our campus blends community and academe to engage, nurture, and inspire.

Initially established in 1889 as a state normal school, Oneonta has become a premier school of the SUNY system. Our strong alumni network spans the globe, demonstrating the leadership and accomplishment that exemplify an Oneonta education.

Students choose SUNY Oneonta for lots of reasons. Our welcoming campus. The “just-right” size of our college community. The idyllic setting neighboring the City of Oneonta. But what sets us apart most is that we focus, day in and day out, on exceptional living and learning opportunities. Our curriculum is flexible, diverse and challenging, with resources to match all kinds of interests. And we’re committed outside the classroom to offering a wide range of options for socializing, entertainment and engagement. It's easy to be happy here.

SUNY Oneonta is the perfect size—big enough to be exciting and small enough to be personal. We offer 60 majors and programs and 55 minors, each designed to prepare you to launch a successful career or continue your education in grad school. On campus, you’ll get the best of both academic worlds: small classes and personal attention, plus top-notch facilities, like our digital planetarium, professional TV studio and human anatomy lab. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn outside the classroom, too, whether it’s through an internship, one of more than 1000 study abroad programs or research with a faculty member. To help you make a smooth transition to college, our First-Year Experience program offers fun activities, freshmen-only residence halls and lots of personal support. Our campus community is friendly and welcoming, and with more than 150 student organizations—from the Accounting Society to the Zombie Defense Corps—it’s easy to get involved.

SUNY Oneonta is located in New York State, a 3 hour drive from New York City. We are proud of our international students and exchange and visiting students who add to the value we place on diversity, inclusion, intellect and talent. Four schools within the college offer 59 majors and programs and over 70 minors, each designed to prepare students for successful careers or graduate school. As a college dedicated to teaching, learning and scholarship, we'll challenge, nurture and even inspire you. Along the way, we'll help create an Oneonta experience that's as unique as you are.

SUNY Oneonta has a reputation for providing an exceptional educational experience at an affordable cost. In addition to frequent recognition by national organizations for our academic quality, we’ve been named to the Kiplinger’s magazine list of the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for 10 years running.

We know that paying for college can be a challenge for many families, and the counselors and staff in our Financial Aid Office work hard to make sure all qualified students have the opportunity to pursue a post-secondary education. More than half of SUNY Oneonta students receive some form of financial assistance, in the form of loans, grants, work-study programs and scholarships.

To understand how deeply we care about academics, look no further than the college's mission statement. It's just one sentence long, but it speaks volumes: SUNY Oneonta unites excellence in teaching, scholarship, civic engagement, and stewardship to create a student-centered learning community.

Our determination to provide a stimulating, rigorous environment and hands-on, high-impact learning has made Oneonta a premier school within the SUNY system. This is also why we tend to attract students and teachers who want small classes, undergraduate research opportunities, and plenty of student-faculty interaction.

The SUNY Oneonta curriculum is flexible, diverse and challenging, with resources to match all kinds of interests. We offer more than 100 majors, minors, and cooperative programs, each designed to prepare you for successful careers or grad school.

As a college dedicated to teaching, learning and scholarship, we'll challenge, nurture and perhaps even inspire you. That's our promise. Along the way, we'll help create an Oneonta experience that's as unique as you are.

You should make memories that last a lifetime in college. We are dedicated to this idea, not in spite of our scholarly mission, but as a complement to it. Boredom and learning simply are not compatible. This may be our strongest argument for the 150+ clubs and organizations on our campus, for the hundreds of hours of entertainment, athletic events and social programming that go on every semester, and for giving our Student Association, created "by the students and to serve the students," an annual budget of over $1 million.
