Founded in 1871, Geneseo is one of the premier public liberal arts colleges in the country. Nationally recognized for excellence and value in the liberal arts, Geneseo is known for its exceptional faculty, its welcoming atmosphere, and its reputation for producing fiercely loyal alumni.

Located on 220 acres in the historic Village of Geneseo, and a short drive from Rochester and Buffalo, Geneseo offers a uniquely warm environment for learning and discovery. The campus embodies the traditions of northeastern colleges with brick walkways, shade trees, and flourishing ivy.

We have 54 undergraduate majors, graduate programs in accounting and education, and an array of dual degree and international study programs. Our undergraduate research grants program enables students to engage in a wide variety of research with faculty members, and present papers at regional and national meetings.

The College’s $53 million Integrated Science Center includes the only pelletron particle accelerator in Western New York — an unexpected asset for scientific research in the region. Geneseo is also among the nation’s top producers of bachelor’s degrees in physics, according to the American Institute of Physics. Among primarily undergraduate institutions, the College ranks in the top 10 nation¬ally in the number of alumni with doctorates in STEM fields.

With more than 200 student organizations (including 11 student multicultural groups), an active student government, community service opportunities, and a variety of distinguished speakers and cultural events each year, we are committed to providing opportunities for students to engage with their classmates, the local community, and the world around.

Dedicated to learning, SUNY Geneseo is a residential public liberal arts college with selected professional and graduate programs. We combine a rigorous curriculum, transformational learning experiences, and a rich co-curricular life to create a dynamic and inclusive scholarly environment. The entire College community works together to advance knowledge and inspire students to be socially responsible and globally aware citizens who are prepared for an enriched life and success in the world.

Geneseo will be widely recognized for demonstrating the enduring power of a public liberal arts education.

Our students question, explore, research, lead, critique and listen. They’re encouraged by accomplished faculty who help students learn and grow, both in class and beyond. From research opportunities in Letchworth State Park to those on Mount Cook in New Zealand. From service projects with LivingstonCARES to hosting the largest collegiate-run Relay for Life event. Or from internships in the Livingston Arts Center to those with IBM, SUNY Geneseo students are inspired to turn their future goals and aspirations into reality.

Each year, Geneseo hosts interested school counselors from various high schools and/or counseling associations across the state on campus for the day. In recent years, counselors from high schools in central, western and downstate New York have visited.

SUNY Geneseo offers master’s degree programs in accounting and education. Most of our graduate programs are available to full-time or part-time students, with courses generally scheduled in the late afternoon and evening and some delivered online.

Geneseo is distinguished by a single purpose: to prepare our students to lead successful, humane and productive lives. We offer 40 undergraduate degree programs, 21 interdisciplinary minors, and graduate programs in accounting and education. If common goals and common values are essential to a learning community, so, too, are common knowledge and common skills. To put such knowledge and skills in the hands of every student is one purpose of the general education curriculum at SUNY Geneseo.

The Geneseo Foundation supports a variety of merit scholarships to incoming freshmen and undergraduates. These scholarships are only available to full-time students of SUNY Geneseo and are funded by annual and endowed contributions from alumni, emeriti, faculty, staff, students, businesses and corporations.

Complementing a rigorous academic program, Geneseo offers a vibrant student and campus life environment. Our students are involved in award-winning leadership development and community service programs, nationally competitive intercollegiate teams, and more than 200 student-led organizations. Countless opportunities for student engagement forge a supportive and challenging collegiate experience.

The Department of Career Development is committed to offering a comprehensive array of programs and services that support career development for our students and alumni. We invite you to call, email, or visit our office for help with your career exploration needs.

Geneseo achieves its educational mission by combining a rigorous curriculum with a rich co-curricular life. The student life experience at Geneseo is intentionally educational, and fosters widespread, substantive student engagement in carefully designed, developmentally based programs and services.

The Department of Student Life administers the campus living program, the MacVittie College Union, and select co-curricular educational and assessment initiatives. Opportunities for student engagement and learning within the department include the all-college hour speaker series, Geneseo Late Knight, Living-Learning Communities, student organizations, Upstate Escapes, the Victor E. Knight mascot program, and Weeks of Welcome, as well as a number of student leadership and applied learning opportunities. We pursue ways to collaborate with Geneseo students, faculty and staff to support our students as they pursue their individual educational goals by challenging students to better themselves, demonstrating an ethic of individual care, and building a strong, vibrant campus community.
