Nestled in the lush Willamette Valley, with an easy drive to both the Pacific Ocean and the Cascade Mountains, the University of Oregon is renowned for its research prowess and commitment to teaching.
Our students are smart, creative, and increasingly diverse. We support and celebrate their successes, and we work hard to provide inspiring educational opportunities in the classroom and beyond. Not so small that everyone knows you. Not so large that you feel lost.
The University of Oregon is one of just two schools in the Pacific Northwest selected for membership in the prestigious Association of American Universities, a consortium of 62 leading public and private research institutions in the United States and Canada.
Our faculty members are as busy learning as they are teaching. This ongoing pursuit—and sharing—of fresh ideas and better ways is what sets apart top-tier research universities like the UO. We want to energize you with a liberal arts education that rewards your curiosity, sharpens your thinking, and challenges you to live your best life. In the process, the fruits of our teaching, research, and public service efforts return billions to Oregon’s economy every year.
We exist to provide Oregonians and their peers from around the world access to an excellent education. We challenge our students to question critically, think logically, communicate clearly, act creatively, and live ethically. We serve the people of Oregon, our nation, and the world through research, teaching, and outreach that benefits humanity, drives innovation, strengthens the economy, and transforms lives.
We have students from all fifty states and more than a hundred countries. Our students, faculty, and staff represent all walks of life. Differing points of view. Every part of Oregon, our nation, and our planet. Because one of the best things about being at a great university is the chance to study, work, play, explore, debate, and engage with people from places you haven't been. Whose lives are nothing like your own. It's looking for commonalities while also celebrating differences. Learning from each other. Making the future brighter. Together.
Throw sepia tones on an October morning in 1876. That’s when 155 students showed up for the first day of classes at the University of Oregon. They filed into a looming, four-story building in the middle of a muddy clearing, with workers inside still hammering away on the upper floors and cattle grazing in the pasture outside. From these rustic origins grew one of the nation’s leading research institutions. Today, our campus is vibrant and green, and we're pursuing the grand challenges facing our state and the world.
Ducks are everywhere. They're leaders in business, industry, education, the arts, government, NGOs, and their communities. They include winners of Emmy, Oscar, and Tony awards, Pulitzer Prizes, Guggenheim Fellowships, MacArthur Genius Grants, the Nobel Prize, Olympic medals, Rhodes Scholarships, the National Humanities Medal, and countless other honors for achievement and public service. Our ROTC graduates more officers than any other civilian school, and we rank 16th for Peace Corps volunteers produced by the nation’s largest universities.
The academic heart of the university, we bring together hundreds of top-notch faculty who are committed to both path-breaking research and mentoring the next generation. We are serious, determined, focused, and hands on. But we are not your typical business school. We are a place that does not shy away from societal issues, but tackles them, solves them.World renowned for our groundbreaking Sustainable Cities Initiative, we are among the nation’s finest professional schools for architecture and the arts, planning, public policy, and design. Teacher education? Of course we do that, but we also train administrators and counselors. School psychologists and family therapists. Human service providers and clinicians. The Clark Honors College features small classes and close interaction among students and faculty. We foster an intense, creative exchange of ideas in a tight-knit, dynamic community. We teach students the power of storytelling through ethics, innovation, and action in journalism and communication. We are inventing the future of media, transforming “What If? into “What Is!”. We are the premier educational institution of music and dance in the Pacific Northwest. We offer programs in music performance, music education, composition, and choreography-performance. A professional law school with a drive for positive change, we thrive on faculty and student engagement, a commitment to solving problems, helping people, and groundbreaking research. Over one hundred graduate options available. Master’s and doctoral degrees. Certificates and specializations. Empowering students to take their education and careers to the next level.
The UO ranks in the top 20 (or top 20 percent) nationally in such varied fields as creative writing, education, environmental law, landscape architecture, psychology, sports marketing, sustainable business practices, and many more. The UO is a great place to study all kinds of things. Our highly ranked programs include: anthropology, biology, comparative literature, geography, earth sciences, physics, psychology, sustainable design, and special education.
Our research funding has more than doubled over the last 20 years and encompasses thousands of scholarly, scientific, and creative endeavors. It contributes millions of outside dollars to the state, generates jobs, and fuels innovation. It gives rise to groundbreaking discoveries, innovative technologies, and inspiring creative works. It enriches our culture, advances the economy, and improves the health and well-being of Oregon, the nation, and the world.

As a biochemistry major, I chose the University of Oregon because of its state of the art facilities and wonderful professors. The professors in your upper level classes do everything they can to help you succeed, whether it be getting you internships or just talking to you about the classwork; though intro classes will be huge making you feel like a number at times. Along with great academics, you are also a Duck! There is nothing better to going to Autzen with 60,000 screaming fans, making the stadium feel like it is going through a small earthquake. Also, there are over 250 clubs on campus so if you say there is nothing to do, you are a lazy sack of crap. If I could go back 2 years back in the college decision making process, I would never ever consider choosing any other university than the university of Oregon.

UO was a very fulfilling experience, both academically and socially. It prepared me well for Med School. I am in my second year of medical school in Southern California and I wouldn't be where I am today without the help and support of the outstanding faculty in the bio department. Make sure that you get to know your professors, as they can help you out immensely when applying to grad school.

University of Oregon provides the quintessential college experience - excellent academics, a very diverse social scene, outstanding athletics, and a plethora of majors to choose from. I am heading into my season year in the fall as a Business Administration major with a concentration in Sports Marketing. The Business program here is fantastic, though quite rigorous and has a ridiculous grading system that makes sure that students don't fall out of the "B" range. It is quite difficult to obtain A's in this program. Aside, from the quirky grading scale, the program is quite good. The Business program places an emphasis on teammate, which helps prepare students for the working world. There is also an Honors Business program available for students who really excel academically (3.8+ gpa). On the social front, there are so many different things to get involved with at this school such as political clubs, intramural sports, the outdoors program, cultural clubs, greek life, student government (ASUO). Most people are aware of the athletics here, so I don't think that needs to be discussed any further. One of the best qualities of this school is the people. Most people are very friendly and easygoing.

I loved my time at the U of O and the school did a great job of preparing me for law school (went to Ohio State). My four years at Oregon were very fulfilling academically, intellectually and socially. I would recommend U of O to anyone looking for a well rounded school.

The Planning, Public Policy, and Management program is excellent. I had a great adviser and really enjoyed the classes. It's one of the smaller programs on campus, so there is a very intimate feel among the faculty and students. Probably one of the most underrated programs on campus. The program really prepared me for Law School at UW.

The University of Oregon was a good experience for me. I had to work a little harder than anticipated as a transfer student, but I grew a fair amount as a result. I moved to Washington D.C. after graduation and eventually got a job with the Department of State, where I worked with colleagues educated at the best schools in the nation. I felt I was equally prepared in terms of education and working well under pressure. I was accepted into better schools, but I'm glad I chose U of O. The price was right, and the school is regarded highly enough for me to accomplish anything I've wanted to thus far.

The faculty in the J School are fantastic. They really want you to succeed once you graduate. U of O allowed me to do things that I wouldn't have been able to do at other schools. The J School is really top notch here and has a great reputation. It is ranked among the 20 top nationally. I made a lot of great friends here that I still keep in touch with, despite living in another state.

I got a lot out of my time at Oregon, primarily concerning the education I received through the Economics department. I was constantly challenged in class, thus I was forced to change my work ethic - and it improved dramatically. The courses in the Economics department were intellectually stimulating. Employers have been impressed with my ability to work under pressure. I can attribute a lot of my success in the professional world to the education I received at Oregon.

The four years spent at the U of O were fulfilling both academically and socially. I was able to grow in my personal development and thanks to the Greek organization I belonged to, I learned how to work with others to achieve common objectives. I value my experiences at Oregon and am grateful for the opportunity to have been graduated from this fine institution.
