At Lafayette, we believe everyone in our community shares responsibility for creating, maintaining, and developing a learning environment in which difference is valued, equity is sought, and inclusiveness is practiced.
We’re working to cut global warming emissions, integrate sustainability into the curriculum, and cultivate solutions to ensure a healthier environmental future. Our campus is a living laboratory for environmental sustainability with green buildings, a community garden and robust food loop.
Academically based service-learning and co-curricular community service, or volunteering, are integral parts of the educational experience for faculty and students. Not only does civic engagement help others, it helps students develop leadership skills as educated citizens and make connections between classroom learning and real-world experience.
More than two centuries ago, a 19-year-old left home to follow a dream. He came to a new place far away, remade himself as a student and scholar, learned from many mentors, took action on that knowledge, and became a leader and a hero. The lifelong philosophy he forged during that time was so important to him he had its Latin translation emblazoned on his family crest. Today, at the college that bears his name, we embrace that philosophy every day. We challenge our students to move beyond the familiar, the comfortable, the easy. We dare them to become thinkers and leaders themselves. We offer them opportunities to jump into the thick of things, to take risks, to care deeply.
Our curriculum is distinguished by its rare combination of degree programs in liberal arts and engineering. All of our students take an absorbing first-year seminar that brings you into the academic life and traditions of the College. Gain a broad base of knowledge through the Common Course of Study, but also create expertise by specializing in one of 51 areas of study.

Lafayette College offers opportunities to learn and grow outside of the classroom. Any student who is motivated and self-starting, will have the world at their fingertips. Those who just want to get by, really don't belong here anyway. Within the classroom the undergraduate student really counts.

Great school and would send recommend it to anyone. Small, beautiful campus. People are nice and there is a great sense of community. A very active student body and everyone seems to constantly be out and about. Social life is great and the majority enjoys to party some extent. Professors are a little too academic however, they are always available and are very connected with the campus. Be prepared to work hard. "The Lafayette Experience"

Lafayette gives you the opportunity to make your own experience -- there are a lot of "entrepreneurs" at the college who start really remarkable things with the remarkable resources available here. You need a positive attitude and a strong sense of self to distinguish yourself from the sometimes overly preppy, homogenous crowd -- but once you find your niche and your voice, the possibilities are truly endless. It's a rigorous academic environment, filled with people who want you to succeed in the classroom and in the work world -- this college is dedicated (perhaps to a fault) to your professional success.

The academic programs are very good, the faculty is amazingly accessible. Most people are easy to approach and friendly. Also, most students are from either PA or NJ. There is definitely a lack of multicultural interaction, though. I have found that many fellow students have simply never been exposed to other races, classes and cultures. This makes them appear to be close-minded at first, when in fact they have simply never imagined a difference in opinions/values/religion. It seems the root of this problem is a lack of exposure, not intentionally offensive behavior or close-mindedness (for the most part). Also, there is a sense of entitlement which sometimes leads to arrogance and snooty behavior.

Lafayette is a small campus with a chance to get involved and to meet a lot of great people. Although there are pretty many snobby students (it is a private school after all), I definitely have a great group of friends. The faculty can also act as if they are soo above you, but overall they are really helpful and want you to succeed. They do expect a lot from you though.

Lafayette College has been a transformative journey for my daughter, where the exceptional quality of education is matched only by the unwavering support of the faculty.
