Student Housing & Residential Life is a department within Student Affairs consisting of three primary areas: Residential Life, Operations, and Housing and Conference Services. Approximately 6,000 students live in seven distinct housing areas that provide a comprehensive student services program. These areas are managed by full-time, live-in staff members, including professional Residence Life Coordinators, faculty-in-residence and Resident Advisors (student staff).

The University of Houston's proud heritage of academic excellence dates back to its founding in 1927. In 1947, the institution launched one of its many rich traditions by adopting the cougar, later named Shasta, as its official mascot.Over the years, we grew and prospered, becoming the University of Houston in 1934. Two years later, the institution acquired land for a permanent campus, and its first building opened in 1939. The university became a state institution in 1963 and joined the newly created University of Houston System in 1977.

UH is a university open to students that are ambitious and self-motivated. Opportunities for extra-cirricular activities such as student government, independent research and special programs like the Honors College are open to students who prove themselves. You are rewarded on the quality of your work-not your blood line. Students here form a meritocracy not an aristocracy.

College definetely helped my ability to self learn. A college degree is some cases is essential for certain promotions. My recommendation for college students is to work very hard and maintain a high GPA. Pursue the field that interested you.

I love the University of Houston. I've had some really great professors, and have found the coursework to be both beneficial and challenging. I suspect that many of the bad reviews found here on this website are from either students who have selected majors that they are ilsuited for, or from students who are seeking a keg party instead of a valuable education. All in all, I wouldn't take a minute or second back from my college experience here. I have made a multitude of friends, and have enjoyed many campus activities. (Particularly Cougar football games!) Go Coogs!

I transferred in from Texas A&M. Alright.. first of all, the education really is top-notch here. I'm not sure how to interpret the rankings and such, but I am MUCH happier with every single aspect of UH when I compare it to such a highly acclaimed "Tier One" institution (TAMU). The administration really does listen to the students. Maybe that's why the things that are at the top of the students' lists clearly seem to be what the administration has concentrated on the most. This is the place for me.

I worked 60 hours a week and cared for my son each weekend and was able to consistently pull 12 to 16 hours per semester because of the flexible class scheduling in the College of Technology. I learned more in the 3 years I spent finishing my BS degree than I had in the previous 10 years working in my field of study. My instructors were accomplished and credentialed professionals who really taught me well. I don't begrudge or belittle my co-workers that attended the LSUs, A&Ms or UTs - I just help them by sharing a lot of what I was taught at UH! Say what you want, I've consistently earned top 5% for folks in my field. Go Coogs!!!

The Construction Management program is awesome. We have won many national competitions. Our faculty is world-known and first class and they use the most advance software. Houston is the capital of construction too so its good to find jobs as well (internships, co-ops etc..) If your thinking about civil engineering or architecture as a major, you should check this program out.

UH School of Architecture has prepared me well for entering the working field. I had a very intensive, but fun filled 5-year there. The tuition is affordable which allowed me to spend more on materials and study abroad program. It is a 5 year professional degree that will prepare you well for higher education or getting the license.

Great University!!! I am currently a teacher and the College of Education at UH is a great laboratory in terms of preparing you for life in classroom!!! Anyone who says that UH didn't prepare them for the "real-world" classroom environment just didn't pay attention!!! It's all covered and then some!!! The Professors are first rate, the classes are excellent, and the student body is, simply put, a model of the kind of diversity found in the classroom. Students from all corners of the world converge on the University of Houston to study and learn. You gain so much more than textbook knowledge at UH, you also become versed in how to apply, function and interact across a broad spectrum of human and intellectual diversity!!! I love this place and I'm sure so would you if given a chance!
