Texas Southern University possesses an impressive array of more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs and concentrations, a diverse faculty, 80-plus student organizations, and an extensive alumni network comprised of educators, entrepreneurs, public servants, lawyers, pilots, artists, and more, many of whom are change agents on the local, national and international stage. Nestled upon a sprawling 150-acre campus, Texas Southern University is one of the nation’s largest historically black universities.

Our academic curriculum is organized into eleven colleges and schools that continue to serve as cornerstones for developing the greatest potential in leaders from various socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Some of TSU’s well-known graduates include the late U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Jordan and U.S. Congressman George “Mickey” Leland.

Texas Southern University is heralded as a pioneer and has distinguished itself by producing a significant number of African American students who have obtained post-secondary and advanced degrees. The university’s enrollment has grown from 2,303 students to more than 9,200 undergraduate and graduate students from across the world. Although initially established to educate African Americans, Texas Southern University has become one of the most diverse institutions in Texas.

Texas Southern University is a student-centered comprehensive doctoral university committed to ensuring equality, offering innovative programs that are responsive to its urban setting, and transforming diverse students into lifelong learners, engaged citizens, and creative leaders in their local, national, and global communities.

Texas Southern University will become one of the nation’s pre-eminent comprehensive metropolitan universities. We will be recognized by the excellence of our programs, the quality of our instruction, our innovative research, and our desire to be a contributing partner to our community, state, nation, and world.

When you are admitted into college, you and your family will have a variety of questions about how your family will be able to maintain the costs for your college education. One of the most frequently asked questions among college applicants is, “How do I cover the costs for tuition, housing, meals, transportation and books.” Each family’s strategy will be different based on their personal circumstances. There are numerous options available to make your education affordable. Texas Southern University offers many financial aid options to help you pay for college costs.

Student Life Center staff and students know that the events/programs sponsored under the auspices of Student Activities give students the opportunity to implement their ideas in a creative, practical, learning environment.

On any given day, students can be found socializing with classmates, fraternity brothers/sorority sisters, or just plain old friends in the lobby, game room, or in front of the SSLC building. Student organizations sponsor events in the Student Center that range from educational seminars to autograph signings of up and coming Hip Hop and R&B artists.

Also located in the Student Life Center are the Sodexho Food Services, Folette Bookstore, the Copy Center as well as Barber & Beauty Services. In addition to student and university functions, the Student Center provides meeting, event, and conference spaces at competitive prices to the public and private entities.

TSU’s Student Activities department maintains membership in the American College Union International (ACUI) and National Association of Campus Activities (NACA) professional associations.

When you think of internships, most often you think of working excessive amounts of hours for no pay and oftentimes no more experience gained than you had when you first walked in the door. Yes, some employers do exploit gullible, wide-eyed college students who just want to work in their prospective fields of study. However, they are not the majority. College students should not let what they think they know affect what they can learn.

The Office of Student Life is committed to facilitating the holistic development of our students while cultivating a diverse and inclusive campus community. Student Life staff are educators and mentors who work collaboratively with faculty and staff of the University to provide learning experiences both in and outside the classroom.

Our programs and services foster student learning and development, inspire TSU pride, promote health and wellness, and prepare students for their chosen professions in the global society.
