Burlington College is a small, private, nontraditional liberal arts institution located in Burlington, Vermont, that honors each student as an individual. The College offers courses, majors and degree programs suited to those individual characteristics. These include Associate, Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees, as well as an Individualized Master’s degree program, and several professional certificate programs. Founded in 1972 as the Vermont Institute of Community Involvement, Burlington College is dedicated to its original mission; that of integrating learning, personal development and engagement in the community into a comprehensive educational opportunity.
A nonprofit institution, the College is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Creative adaptation of strong liberal arts curricula in the Humanities, Fine Arts and the Social Sciences has resulted in the focused development of majors such as Integral Psychology, Expressive Arts, Writing and Literature, Photography, Cinema Studies and Film Production, and Legal and Justice Studies, and Woodworking and Fine Furniture Making degrees. Our students become involved in the community as an integral component of their education at Burlington College, and the Institute for Civic Engagement enables them to research, educate, publish and take action on issues of importance, both here in Vermont and throughout the worldwide community. Burlington College guides its students to become knowledgeable and skillful in their chosen fields; lifelong learners and active citizens engaged in fostering a just, humane society and advancing sustainable, supportive communities.
