Through those founding years, students and faculty were inspired to influence the moral and ethical course of America.Subsequently, the school’s name officially changed to Liberty Baptist College in 1976 and the colors were changed to red, white, and blue. The college achieved full accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges in 1980.
By 1985, the school had become recognized as a fully¬ accredited university, adding programs and garnering recognition from both mainstream culture and the world of academia. Liberty also pioneered a distance learning program that year, launching what is now known as Liberty University Online.
With the passing of the founder in 2007, his son, Jerry Falwell Jr., became chancellor and president of the university. At the 2007 Commencement ceremony, just days after his father’s passing, the now President Falwell proclaimed, “We have prepared for this transition for 15 years or more. All is well at Liberty.”Liberty’s journey has been one of facing giants, making the impossible possible, watching fervent prayer move mountains, and Training Champions for Christ.
Standing on the shoulders of more than two millennia of Christian scholarship, Liberty University emphasizes the pursuit of knowledge in every discipline. A world-class liberal arts university with 17 schools and colleges, Liberty offers more than 550 programs from the certificate to the doctoral level ranging from medicine, biology, chemistry, and engineering to design, music, religion, law, and more.
Founded in 1971 in Lynchburg, Va., Liberty has grown from a small college of 154 students into a university with a residential student body of over 15,000. Preparing students to be doctors, educators, ministers, lawyers, aviators, counselors, engineers, and more, Liberty is committed to developing tomorrow’s leaders — men and women of character whose impact will extend beyond their professions to change the world around them.

Liberty University is the best university that anyone could hope to attend. It is polar opposite of the liberal, secular humanistic, bias approach that state universities take. I would HIGHLY recommend Liberty University and say - run, don't walk to get in here and away from the worldview of other universities. At Liberty, you will enjoy personal attention, top of the line professors, and fully accredited course material. The professors will ALWAYS go above and beyond to help you succeed. You aren't a number at Liberty - you are special. God Bless Liberty University!

Overall it is a wonderful school. Just like anywhere else there are some unpleasant people, but the majority of people here are friendly and really reach out to you in an effort to befriend you. Almost all of my professors have welcomed the class to aproach them one-on-one in their office with any questions at all. They are available and ready to help.

I transfered to Liberty from a community college. I am in the middle of my third "full-time" online semester. I have enjoyed most of my classes and I am getting the education I wanted. I fully understood Liberty's theological perspective and this was one of the reasons why I choose to come here. I'm surprised by some of the negative comments about the school's philosophy, did they not do any research before paying their tuition? Liberty is very open and clear about what it teaches. As for the difficulty of my classes I would say they are moderately difficult. As long as you study and turn your assignments in on time, you will get a good grade. Nothing extremely hard but still satisfying.

I believe education is what you put in int. Liberty University offers a great education. I transfered from an IT school and did the rest of my classes online to finish my BS in MIS online. The classes were very challenging. One piece of advice. If you don't know how to manage your time, do not take classes online. I think my education gave me be prepared for the field of work I wanted to get in and at the same time built me up spiritually. I would recommend it to anyone. My college experience was a unique one and is because I went to a unique university.

I am absolutely whole-heartedly in love with Liberty University! The energy level you sense when you step on to this campus is overwhelming. You can't help but get excited about what is going on around you. There is so much school spirit at this University. The friends you make here are going to be your friends for life. The education you receive here goes far beyond the classroom, and professors encourage that. I never thought I would get so much hands-on experience with my major as I have while being here at Liberty. I don't want to graduate and have to leave in a year and a half. You definitely want to choose Liberty, especially as a Christian, because you will never find another place like it in your life. We keep Christ first, we have probably way too much fun, we learn so much, we build strong, solid relationships with our peers and professors, and we do not seclude ourselves from the world. In fact, we incorporate it in our every day lives. For those who think this is "Bible Boot Camp," and everyone is in a "bubble," all I can say is just come spend a weekend here and let me show you the real Liberty University.

Liberty is a school that, yes, is very very different from other colleges. You do tradeoff some experiences and freedoms that you would normally experience at a regular college through rules like curfew and dress code. But you gain a unity and closeness that I haven't experienced anywhere else. I've met so many people who have instantly connected with me and made me feel welcome. This is the place to find life-long friends. And although the school has a Baptist affiliation, you still meet a wide range of people who have different beliefs and religious discussion is encouraged. My main complaint is that sometimes there isn't a whole lot to do in the surrounding city but you can still always find something going on! Your experience is what you make it!

The Liberty Online staff were cordial, friendly and very helpful with any questions or concerns I had. My online instructors for the most part were diligent, cooperative, and responded in timely and professional formats. The courses themselves were challenging, innovative, and aided in my professional growth and development. If you are self-motivated, highly organized, and want to learn then please attend this school. I finished my program in 3 years and then applied to graduate school which I will complete in two years because of their academic liberty, my personal drive, and God's blessings. This is truly a great school founded on Christian principles and ideals. When you visit the campus (been here twice) you will find the staff extremely helpful and a joy to interact with. You will find the campus is full of diversity - in cultures, languages, and friendliness. Its a great school!
