The Evergreen State College is a public liberal arts college located in Olympia, Washington, between Seattle and Portland, in the heart of the Pacific Northwest.

Evergreen attracts students inspired by the complexity of the world. Our model of learning prepares students for the way the world happens now, layering academic disciplines so students can focus on how they want to uniquely impact our ever-changing world. On a forested campus on the shores of Puget Sound, Evergreen offers two undergraduate and three master’s degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Master of Environmental Studies, Master of Public Administration, and Master in Teaching.

Greeners experience the fastest time to degree among Washington’s public, four-year institutions.Direct from high school students graduate in an average of 3.9 years, and transfer students graduate in an average of 2.4 years. That means less in total costs for you and more time in the field.

First-year, freshman students can get access to top tier equipment like nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopes, 3D printers, and studio cameras.Get your hands on the fun toys at Evergreen. Other colleges require upper level experience or research clearance.

As an innovative public liberal arts college, Evergreen emphasizes collaborative, interdisciplinary learning across significant differences. Our academic community engages students in defining and thinking critically about their learning.Evergreen supports and benefits from local and global commitment to social justice, diversity, environmental stewardship and service in the public interest.

Our three graduate programs are grounded in values of service, community, social justice, and stewardship. An interdisciplinary approach to learning, close collaboration, and narrative evaluations are distinctive features of our graduate studies.

The Master of Environmental Studies degree teaches graduates to be creative, critical thinkers with the research skills required for the complex nature of professional environmental work and leadership. Advocate powerfully on behalf of the public, imagine new possibilities, and accomplish positive change in your workplace and in your community. Plant the seeds of justice. Become a certified teacher who creates equitable learning opportunities for all children.

Evergreen feels like home, but with way more options. You’ll find recreation and athletics opportunities galore, over 76 student groups and clubs, locally sourced food, great coffee, and the list goes on. This is a community made for exploring. Go on, poke around, and make our community yours.

At most schools, you are what your grade-point average says you are. At Evergreen, we use context and explanation to evaluate performance, not a simple letter grade. (Kinda like the real world.) Detailed evaluations highlight your work and provide specific examples of your progress. Not only do faculty provide critical evaluations, but you’ll also create a self-reflective Academic Statement which acts as your blueprint to your degree. You’ll use this document to record your achievements and refine your area of emphasis.

Join us for a wonderful outdoor celebration! Commencement is held on Red Square at the center of Evergreen’s Olympia campus, rain or shine.Build your skills and your network while you're still in school. An internship may be a critical part of your experience at Evergreen.Understand your study abroad options, the planning process, and how to have a safe and productive educational experience while overseas.

A consortium is a formal partnership between Evergreen and an external organization that provides study abroad opportunities.

Individual Study is designed for students who are prepared to study at an advanced level, have already completed basic work in the classroom, have the ability to work independently, and are prepared to develop their own syllabus for the quarter.

Internship Learning—An Internship Learning Contract (INT) includes applied work experience, that is negotiated among a student, a field supervisor in an organization or business, and an Evergreen faculty/staff sponsor. The student arranges to spend an agreed-upon number of hours (paid or unpaid) working with an organization, engaging in activities that provide new learning for the student and at the same time benefit the host organization. Many internship contracts also include an academic component which the student negotiates with the faculty sponsor.

Studying in Washington has been a transformative journey for my daughter; the dedicated faculty genuinely cares about student success, fostering an environment where she has flourished academically.

Although I was in the Computer Science program I found that it was not the life I wanted to live. TESC gave me the freedom to change my major and graduate on time in spite of the change. I would attend Evergreen again if given a choice.
