Financial aid is not available for stand-alone certificate programs. State, institutional and private aid is still available. This restriction does not apply to students who are taking certificate programs as a part of a larger degree program or teacher certifications. Financial aid availability for summer 2018 is based on your remaining annual eligibility from the 2017-2018 school year. In general, most summer financial aid is loans only, although if you are Pell eligible, you may qualify for a Pell Grant in the summer. Certain restrictions apply and eligibility will need to be determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarship office. Students who are eligible for the College Bound Scholarship (CBS) may also obtain CBS during summer term. However, any CBS funding used during the summer counts against the 12 quarter maximum on the program.
In 1882, the Benjamin P. Cheney Academy opened its doors to more than 200 enrolling students. A generous contribution of $10,000 from Benjamin P. Cheney, a wealthy transportation industrialist, had at last fulfilled the dreams of Cheney citizens who had long desired an institute for higher learning in their community.
The academy became the State Normal School at Cheney in 1889, the same year in which Washington was given its statehood. The school was proudly designated as an institution “for the purpose of instruction of persons, both male and female, in the art of teaching the various branches that pertain to a good common school.”By the time it became Eastern Washington College of Education in 1937, Eastern was already a fully accredited four-year, degree-granting institution, offering majors in numerous subjects.
The campus grew rapidly in size and program offerings in the decades following World War II. In 1961, the name was again changed, this time to Eastern Washington State College. It was increasingly evident that the region needed professionals in many fields; in response, Eastern added a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Finally, in 1977, the state Legislature changed the school’s name to Eastern Washington University.

Eastern Washington University is a very unique school. It may not be the best and is often overlooked, but it is a quality university and good value, and not just for the money. At Eastern, there is an atmosphere unlike any other university: the students and faculty all genuinely care about doing well and trying hard. It's not really anything that can be described to a great extent about EWU, but is something you just feel when you take a class or talk to anyone on campus. If you want to be where people care about their education and doing better, with great pride in their school, then go to Eastern. GO EAGS!

I like Eastern Washington University and I am an Elementary Education major, with a reading major and a math minor. I really enjoying going here, LOVE the campus. If you aren?t good with drastic seasonal weather, you got to be prepared. It is very nice though. I am from the Seattle, WA area, and yes it is different, but I love the small college size and small class sizes. I would recommend this school for sure.

I would recommend Eastern Washington University to anyone. The campus and student body are a great size, large enough to meet new people all the time and small enough to see familiar faces. The campus is beautiful. The town of Cheney is small but there is plenty to do in Spokane a short and free bus ride away. Eastern just built a new recreation center complete with indoor running track, rock climbing wall and NHL sized hockey rink. I had a great time at Eastern and highly recommend it!

I loved my time at Eastern Washington University - I lived in quiet and very friendly dorm, and the food really is better than UW, CWU, WSU, UI, and ISU. Not dealing with gross living conditions makes getting work done and enjoying my free time much easier. I did have one crazy professor that made me decide to change my major, but every other professor I met was good, and it worked out for the best. I now work in an interesting field that I didn't even know existed before I opened up Eastern Washington University course catalog.

Being the third school that I transferred to, I found Eastern Washington University atmosphere refreshing. The professors I have worked with/encountered are open-minded and dedicated as well as very knowledgeable in their fields. Students are nice, many the first in their families to have attended college.
Cheney isn't the most exciting city, in fact, it's pretty dull. But Spokane is no more than a bus ride away, and there's much more to do there. Great university! Great people!
