We approach things differently at Northland College. Our progressive focus on the environment and sustainability prepares you to address complex problems head on and make a real-world impact, regardless of the field you choose. You’ll also get the chance to participate in graduate level research as an undergrad. That’s something few other institutions can offer.
Northland offers over 40 academic programs, each combining a distinct liberal arts education with critical “green skills” that employers and graduate schools are looking for. We also offer the chance to do an EcoLeague exchange with one of our partner schools.
At Northland College, we think a successful career and a satisfying life go hand in hand. You shouldn’t have to give up one for the other. A career can be financially rewarding, but we also view it is a vehicle to improve your community, positively influence other people’s lives, and ultimately change the world for the better.
Northland College has been the launching point for scientists, educators, business owners, and dedicated professionals in almost every field imaginable. Our liberal arts curriculum, with its progressive focus on the environment and sustainability, gives you the tools, confidence, and vision to be competitive in our greening world economy.
In addition to internships and career counseling, we provide networking opportunities with alumni, trustees, the business community, agencies, and notable campus guests. You’ll also have access to attend professional conferences in your areas of study. Our small faculty to student ratio gives you plenty of one on one time with your professors who can help make the connections you need. Our number one goal is to help you succeed.
You’re not only in the process of picking a college, you’re choosing a community too. Where you end up will impact how you spend your free time, who your friends will be, and how you view the world after college.

One of the major challenges you face in attending college is how to cover the costs of your education. Our Financial Aid Office is ready to work with you to make this investment affordable.
The first step in the financial aid process is filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to be considered for all types of aid.
We offer our students many forms of financial aid, including federal, state, and private scholarships and grants, campus employment, and student loans. We’re here to assist you through the entire financial aid process by keeping you informed of important deadlines and answering any questions you may have as you complete your college search.
Our awesome, student-led outdoor orientation (OO) trips are designed to introduce you to other students while exposing you to life in northern Wisconsin. Trips include everything from backcountry expeditions to urban explorations. Have some fun looking over your trip options.
New student orientation is for all first-year and transfer students. In addition to your OO trip, there is a one-day on-campus orientation. First-year students are required to participate in both. Transfer students (those arriving with more than 24 credits) are required to participate in either the one-day on-campus orientation or take an orientation trip designed specifically for transfer students.
The North Wisconsin Academy was founded in 1892 with a declaration to provide educational opportunities to people of the north woods—including immigrants, women, and Native Americans. The Academy later became Northland College and our commitment to that original idea has never wavered. Northland was one of the first institutions of higher learning to offer a major in Native American studies and have hosted a spring powwow every year since 1974.
Founded in 1892, Northland College is located at the top of Wisconsin, on the south shore of Lake Superior. Adjacent to the Apostle Islands and nearly a million acres of national forest, Northland has an unparalleled living laboratory and natural playground just beyond our doors.
