ParisTech is a collective entity that includes 12 of the most prestigious French institutes of education and research. MINES ParisTech is one of the founding members of this research and higher education cluster of excellence, composed of several French Grandes Ecoles (executive engineering and business schools). November 2003, ParisTech launched an ambitious project to promote, gather and give free access to the largest number of courses materials from the 11 member Institutes at that time: " ParisTech Libres Savoirs " meaning literally "ParisTech free Knowledge". This is the main goal of the ParisTech Graduate School website.

Now, MINES ParisTech is one of the driving forces in ParisTech Graduate School. Analysis shows that internet users give preference over MINES ParisTech classes and download preferably our thesis. Dating back to the year the School was established, 1783, the library possesses one of the largest scientific and technical collections in France. Users can benefit from the services of the highly qualified 23 staff members, now based at the four locations of the School. The library houses 378 different periodicals as well as online electronic resources: 5,600 electronic publications/53,300 resources and 1,300 digital books. Students can consult your future theses online (Pastel) and a portal for online publications is available to users. In collaboration with the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, since 1995, the library has also developed an inter-library network with ParisTech, GEM (Groupe des Ecoles des Mines), Couperin and Sudoc.

The patrimonial collection of MINES ParisTech library, going back up to the 16th Century, is constituted of books, periodicals, manuscripts and maps.This technical and scientific collection is particularly rich in documents concerning mining, metal industry, mineralogy, chemistry and machines. The biggest part of the patrimonial collection catalogues is not computerized yet, and is only accessible by the old paper catalogues. However, the catalogue of books printed before 1900 is being integrated into the database of the library.

MINES ParisTech was created in 1783, when the exploitation of mines was a high-technology industry. Quite naturally, the skills of the School followed the development of industry and MINES ParisTech, nowadays, studies, develops and teaches all the useful techniques for engineers, including economic and social sciences. Thanks to its multidisciplinary teaching, the School trains non-specialized engineers, able to resolve a really complex problem, or to carry out an industrial project, and treat all the highly technical aspects, as well scientific, sociological, economic as ethical. The background of the School, connected to the industry of mines, concentrating all the scientific knowledge, opens all the fields of research today: transport, energy, mechanics.

Ever since 1783, the School has always been able to keep ahead of a changing world by taking part and launching projects with future potential. All students have access to it and can make use of the geological information for free. It constitutes a unique tool not only for students but for all geological service specialists, miners and prospectors. It ranks as the top collection in the world and serves as a constant reference for systematic mineralogy. Its specific activities are centred on its collections and stands as a milestone in mineralogical history.

The Mineralogy Museum hosts exhibitions on the premises of the Hôtel de Vendôme, as well as at provincial and foreign locations (eg. Athens, Alexandria and Casablanca, etc.). It also welcomes school parties, amateurs and foreign museum curators and organizes meetings and workshops on themes chosen at the request of associations such as Les Amis du Louvre or the Association for the Advancement of Science, etc.

The 286 research professors provide the students with high-level teaching. The limited size of the annual intakes gives them an opportunity to make use of innovative pedagogical methods in correlation with the world of industry, society and future aspirations. The aim is for academic excellence with 286 research professors, 100 theses and 400 articles or books in key research fields published every year.

The international dimension is a real aspect of MINES ParisTech. Life at the School will bring you in contact with students from more than 50 different countries.
