School Librarian

Job Summary

• To ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information to empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information.
• To install a love of learning in all students and ensure equitable access to information
• To collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction; assess student learning and instructional effectiveness
• Provide leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the school and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program

Responsibilities

• Create an environment for creativity, innovation, openness to new ideas and consensus
• Strengthen connections between student information, research needs, curricular content, learning outcomes and information resources
• Provide assistance in the selection, acquisition, evaluation and organization of information resources and technologies in all formats, as well as guidance in the ethical use of information
• Empower students to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information
• Collaborate with members of the learning community to enhance the school library and plan activities

Required Skills

• Bachelor Degree in Information and Library Studies
• 2- years experience as a librarian
• Information retrieval skills
• Ability to teach information literacy skills
• High level of organisational skills
• Expertise in online searching
• Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school community
• Ability to work with young people and deal with challenging behaviour
• Excellent computer literacy
• Self motivated and able to work under own direction
• Proactive and imaginative in approach to provision and promotion of services
