Dubai Metro Fees & Ticket Prices

The first step is to buy and load a Nol card. This card allows you to travel by public transport such as Dubai Metro, Tram, Bus, Waterbus, as well as allows you to pay at parking meters. Tap your Nol card on the entry and exit points and the system will deduct the fare. Children aged 5 years and below can travel free.

There are different types of Nol cards –Silver, Gold, Blue Card and a Red Ticket.

  • Nol Silver Card (AED 25) This card is recommended for occasional travellers and includes AED 19 trip credit.
  • Nol Gold Card (AED 25) Holders can travel in the designated Metro Gold Class cabins by paying a premium fare and also includes an AED 19 trip credit.
  • Nol Blue Card (AED 70) This is a personalized Nol card perfect for regular users and includes AED 20 trip credit.
  • Nol Red Ticket (up to 10 trips or 5 daily passes) A paper-based ticket which can be loaded with up to 10 Trips perfect for tourists.

Dubai Metro fees vary depending on the length of each journey. Passengers are charged depending on the number of zones they pass through on each journey. A 50% discount is applicable to senior citizens and students holding the Blue Nol card.

Dubai Metro Tips & Violations

When using the Dubai Metro, you should be aware of all the rules. Make sure you remember these tips and violations.

  1. Nol cards or tickets should be purchased when traveling by metro.
  2. Students and senior citizens with a Blue Nol Card can get a 50% discount on fares. Passengers with special needs can travel for free.
  3. The RTA’s Wojhati service is a planner that combines all forms of transport (Bus, Waterbus, Metro, Tram) to plan your route in real-time.
  4. Mobile phone service is available in the entire Metro line.
  5. There is free WiFi available from du on the Metro. You can enjoy an hour of internet for AED 10 when paying with a credit card, or AED 20 per hour when using prepaid scratch cards.

These violations are strictly prohibited. Violators can be asked to pay a fine for each violation:

  1.  Using another person’s Nol card.
  2. Destroying or tampering devices, seats, facilities, and services of the Metro
  3. Eating and drinking is prohibited inside the train
  4. Causing inconvenience or discomfort among passengers
  5. Smoking is not allowed within the premises of Dubai Metro
  6. Carrying alcoholic drinks
  7. Resting your feet on the seats
  8. Spitting or littering
  9. Selling or advertising of goods and services
  10. Opening or attempting to open the doors while in motion
  11. Entering or sitting in places allocated for certain categories
  12. Animals are not allowed onto public transport except guide dogs
  13. Operating any security or safety facility

Dubai Metro Routes & Stations

The two lines of the Dubai Metro are the Red line (Rashidiya – UAE Exchange metro stations) and the Green line (Etisalat – Creek metro stations).

The Red Line runs from Al Rashidiya station to UAE Exchange and travels along Sheikh Zayed Road for most of its length. It has 29 stations spanning 52.1 km. The Green Line is one of the two lines in the Dubai Metro network in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It runs through Deira and Bur Dubai, generally parallel to Dubai Creek. There are 20 stations in this line, spanning from Etisalat to Dubai Creek covering 22.5 km.

1. What are the Dubai Train Timings?

Dubai Metro operating timings:

  • Red Line: 5.00am until midnight Saturday to Wednesday, 5.00am until 1am on Thursdays and 10am until 1am on Fridays.
  • Green Line: 5.30am until midnight Saturday to Wednesday, 5.30am until 1am on Thursdays and 10am until 1am on Fridays.

2. Where can you buy tickets?
Tickets are sold in vending machines and ticket offices at Dubai Metro stations and bus stations. It is also available in malls and airports. Supermarkets such as Spinneys also sell Nol cards.

3. Are food and drinks prohibited inside the train?
Yes. Passengers who eat or drink inside the train will be fined.

4. Are there separate cabins for men and women?
There are three cabins dedicated for Women and Children. Men who are found in these cabins will be fined.

5. Is the feeder bus free?
Feeder buses are free as long as you travel with the metro. You will be charged a standard fare if you only travel by this bus.

Parking is free for Metro users. However, fines are imposed to people leaving their cars parked overnight.

10. If I miss the last train, what are my options?
A night bus between Nakheel Harbour & Tower and Rashidiya station runs every 20 minutes, from 11 p.m. until 2 a.m.

11. How secure are metro stations?
Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world. There are around 14 security personnel in every station and 64 surveillance cameras. You are assured of your safety.
