How to Pay Parking by SMS in Abu Dhabi (Mawaqif)

For Abu Dhabi motorists, the SMS parking payment service has long been a reliable solution to avoid sprinting to their cars under the scorching midday sun. However, until now, this convenient service was exclusively accessible to individuals with Abu Dhabi-registered number plates.

To enhance convenience for out-of-towners, the Department of Transport is introducing a new code that will enable motorists driving any UAE-registered vehicle to make parking payments via SMS.

Marking its debut on Sunday, January 28, the Department of Transport will launch its revamped SMS parking payment system, eliminating the need for prior registration.

The updated format will follow this structure: (city code and plate category) followed by a space, then the plate number, another space, and finally, an indication of whether it’s a standard (S) or premium (P) parking, followed by a space and the desired duration in hours.

To illustrate, if a driver possesses a series-five license plate with the number 00000, registered in Abu Dhabi, and wishes to avail one hour of standard parking, they would simply send a text message in the format: AUH5 00000 S1.

Similarly, a driver with a Dubai-registered license plate from the A-series, who intends to utilize premium parking for a duration of two hours, would send a text message as follows: DXBA 00000 P2.

The city codes to be used are as follows:

  • AUH for Abu Dhabi
  • DXB for Dubai
  • SHJ for Sharjah
  • AJM for Ajman
  • UAQ for Umm Al Quwain
  • RAK for Ras Al Khaimah
  • FUJ for Fujairah

It’s important to note that the previous service will continue to operate alongside the introduction of the new system, offering motorists multiple options for parking payment.
