Shrewsbury International School offers an inspirational English language education for carefully selected students, caring for them in an organisation committed to continuous improvement, and providing outstanding opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

We recruit the finest teachers and staff, providing them with the resources to nurture outstanding students and exemplify the pioneering spirit and traditions of Shrewsbury School. From our Junior School students, enthusiastically developing their interests and passion for learning, to our exemplary Sixth Form leaders graduating to embark on careers at the world’s leading universities, Shrewsbury International School is established around its innovative, ambitious, dynamic international community.

We endeavour to bring together exceptional students into our community of learning, whether these students are outstanding in the classroom, concert hall, sports field, on stage or simply in person. Each part of the school adopts best practices for its admissions, ensuring careful, precise and fair selectivity at all stages of entry. We are a selective school where ambition, determination and the pursuit of excellence are carefully nurtured.

We are a caring, thoughtful community of exceptional people, from our talented students and ambitious parents to our hand-picked, fully-qualified staff. The Shrewsbury environment is people-centred. We recognise achievements of all kinds and continue to develop the professional skills of our primary asset, our staff. We strive to ensure that parents are fully engaged stakeholders in the learning process.

We are a school that is engaged in a process of continual improvement, growth and renewal, recognising the rapid changes required to keep pace with developments in education. Our development plans are dedicated to bringing quality staff to a school whilst ensuring, committed investment in infrastructure and facilities. Our purpose-built school is modern, contemporary and designed to enhance the learning experience of students of the 21st century.

We offer an impressive range of curriculum and co-curricular activities to extend the interests and horizons of every student. Our Excellence Programmes challenge and support students gifted in music, visual and performing arts and sport. We offer scholarships to exceptional students through a selection process that is rigorous, transparent and fair.

We are a community of language learners that recognises that the speaking of English brings our international community together. Shrewsbury students understand that the ability to think, learn and communicate in English will allow them to achieve their very highest potential at school, university and in the world of work.

Shrewsbury understands the pressures on young people in the modern world. Our teachers pride themselves on the care they give to children and the partnership they form with parents to allow children to be happy as well as successful. From community action to unparalleled university counselling, Shrewsbury endeavours to give priority to the highest standards of pastoral care and individual support.

We are a British international school that whilst being contemporary is firmly in the tradition of our sister school in the UK. We share its exemplary standards of achievement, care and governance and enjoy all the advantages of our location. Our learner profile provides a pathway that has served generations of Salopians—as our motto relates, if the heart is right, all will be well.

When children start at Shrewsbury they are placed in year groups based on their age on 31st August. Progress between Year Groups is usually automatic, although students may be out of their age group for exceptional reasons. Year Groups are clustered into Key Stages and a defined curriculum is produced for each Key Stage. Throughout each Key Stage there are ongoing assessments to monitor and track each child’s academic progress.

As students progress through the key stages, they build knowledge in a wide range of academic subjects, including core English, Mathematics and Science disciplines, and a variety of humanities and linguistic programmes, including some optional courses. Traditional subjects are supplemented by a series of bespoke learning programmes, created especially for Shrewsbury students that focus on their emotional and social development, as well as academic skills.

Age-appropriate learning styles and resources are adopted throughout the school, with play-based learning in our youngest classrooms gradually progressing to more independent learning styles and complex subject matter. This journey gives students the opportunity to find their own academic strengths and interests in a variety of subjects before moving on to the more focused academic content for their selected IGCSE and A-level programmes, chosen by students with specific university and career paths in mind.

I found it really hard to describe this school with words, but let me try. Their school is really modern, but you will see so much handed craft stuffs by students all over the school but well manage displayed on their wall or any corner in the school. I was witness how they teach their students critical thinking with harkness model. They have a very noisy library which is good to me, that’s how library supposed to be where everybody learn and explore things. Their facility are complex but well managed. I’m not surprised when they tell me about their tuition fee.

We’ve had 5 moves 5 different schools. Catholic Colleges, Public Schools and Private Grammar Schools and Shrewsbury International School out ranks them all on all fronts. This critique is not from me but from my boys. The ones that spend nearly 9hrs a day there and from a Parent prospective Shrewbury exceeds expectations.

Wonderful school. Academically excellent and also with great opportunities for students in music, sport, drama, extra curricular activities, etc. Very happy with our decision. My child is very happy at this school.

Your school is excellent but the management is very poor, causing traffic jam everyday. It makes trouble for other people. You must see when your school is closed, the road is very clear. I think your children should begin to study at 4.00 or move to suburb. It's the best solution.

What a lovely school this is, my son has had his first term at Shrewsbury and is enjoying it. At first i wasn't sure if he would be able to adapt or adjust to the new school since he had spent 2 years at nursery school in another international school but he did manage to transition in smoothly, thanks to the teacher who gave him the extra attention and care.

I attended the Christmas Concert which was absolutely delightful. The facilities are excellent, the staff are charming, the students were very talented! I received delicious food and drink and enjoyed my time at the school very much. Hopefully I can return to visit during the next concert.

Suffice to say, even a for-profit school, educators should be educators first, rather than businessmen with no regard to students and parents. Shrewsbury is the only school without a published timeline of their application process. As part of our relocation from California to Thailand, we reached out to Shrewsbury in January to begin the application process for our 8 year old daughter. We were put on hold and was not advised of any action items. Finally, in May, when we needed to start finalizing our plans, we were told by the "Customer Services Admissions Executive" that Shrewsbury "review[s] ALL applications and assessment results before selecting the students most suitable for our school." Naturally, all schools reserve the right to accept whoever they want. But why wait till May to inform us of the process, and why the emphasis on "ALL" without providing a timeline on the decision making? Were we supposed to wait until the day before school starts before finding out the decision? Despite the warning flags, we continued on. We were then told our daughter needs to sit through a 4 hour "assessment test." For a school that flaunts "record breaking examination results," Shrewsbury, ironically, chooses not to use any standardized test for their own admissions process. Rather, Shrewsbury sent us scans of workbook exercises and asked our school to administer them, a burden neither my daughter nor the school could afford at the end of the school year with existing obligations. When confronted with these concerns, Principal Holroyd simply states he "take[s] issue" with my feedback, the team acted in "complete compliance with our policies" and "conclude our relationship with you." In today's age of transparency, your "policies" is what's wrong. Remember, you are supposed to be educators, not money grubbers; dangling false hope of vacancies in pursuit of the almighty dollar does not do yourself any favors.
