South Park began as two separate schools, the infant and the junior school, and was amalgamated to form our large school, currently standing at 684 pupils. South Park Primary School is a caring, nurturing and supportive community within which every pupil should feel they have value and can learn to value others. We have good links with our main feeder secondary school, Mayfield and are looking forward to strengthening the work we do with their older students.

We run a range of after school clubs, which result in many of the children also competing in inter-school competitions. These include computing, football, netball, chess, cookery, arts and crafts, drama and street dance. Our choir is well attended and every two years the children attend the Royal Albert Hall Choral Festival, a fantastic event involving many schools from the local area.

South Park Primary has a very strong community feel, many staff, governors and volunteers at the school were either pupils or have had links with the school since their own children attended.

We continue to build on our privileged position to be part of our local community, holding book days (where some of the staff really go to town with their book related outfits!); harvest festival, with the food collected going to the Welcome Centre for the homeless; celebrations of a range of religious festivals, including the annual Carol Service at our local church and sports days at Knox Field. Parents and friends are always welcome at our events and are extremely supportive. We also work hard through the year to support local and national charities, where the school community can always be relied upon to give generously of their time and money.

In spite of working in a building that is now over 100 years old, as well as celebrating South Park’s varied and colourful past, we are also a forward looking school. Our ongoing aim is to continue to raise standards, achievement and increase rates of progress for all pupils so that children are well prepared for the next stages of their educational career. In an ever changing environment, we aim to reach out to our local, national and global community to ensure that children have a broad experience of all that the world has to offer.

At South Park Primary School, we aspire to provide a school experience that

  • Is stimulating, secure, safe and supportive, allowing all children to reach their potential
  • Develops children’s personalities, talents, academic and physical abilities so that they are self-motivated independent learners
  • Offers a wide range of activities through an exciting and varied curriculum, enriching children’s everyday experiences
  • Teaches our children to recognise, respect, value and celebrate the diverse cultures of the school and the wider community
  • Prepares all children to live and act responsibly now and in the future
