Admissions Policy

The school follows the Redbridge admissions policies. There are separate policies for admissions to Nursery classes and statutory age classes (for children who must attend school by law) Parents who wish their child to attend South Park Primary School should complete the Primary School Admissions form, available online from Redbridge Children’s Services. If you need help with translation, or any other aspect of filling in the form, please speak to the admin staff or Gaynor White, our Parent Support Advisor, and we will be happy to help you with this. You are also welcome to make an appointment to look around the school at a convenient time.

Admissions to Nursery classes

The school has 52 part-time places. Children are admitted to the Nursery in September. Children are admitted in the following order:

  • ‘Looked after children’, that is children who are in the care of local authorities as defined by section 22 of the Children Act and who are confirmed by that local authority to be expected to be still in public care when due to be admitted to school;
  • Exceptional medical or social reasons, which should be supported by a qualified professional directly involved with the child and will be considered by the Authority’s medical advisors. Only where it is agreed that admission to South Park is essential will an exception to the general policy be made;
  • Siblings, with preference to older children according to their date of birth. Preference will only be given to those siblings who will still be in attendance at the actual date of admission; and
  • All other applicants, with preference given to older children.

In each category, if there are more children than places available, priority will be based on the shortest measured walking distance from the child’s home to the main entrance of the school using public roads and footpaths. The statutory right to appeal does not apply to admissions to nursery classes.

Children can start at the Nursery after their third birthday, and will be offered a parttime place. Please note that a place in our Nursery does not automatically give you a place in Reception—you must still fill out a Reception Places form available from the school if your child attends our Nursery or from Lynton House.
