Welcome to Lawrence School. We are a very busy but friendly school and we've always got lots of things going on. At our school we have three very clear aims that underpin everything we do:

  • To develop a school where effective teaching and learning take place and there is fairness for all.
  • To enable all our children achieve their full potential while helping them become responsible members of society.
  • To develop a school community where everyone is valued.

Our motto is “Where everyone is valued” and we find that this encompassing approach enriches everybody involved with our school. We teach and promote respect and tolerance for the differences in our community and the wider world through all aspects of school life.

We have high standards at Lawrence and achieve this through a creative and fun curriculum but also by providing an environment where children feel safe and happy.

Our children are eager to learn and they bring out the best in our teachers. They are polite and courteous and these qualities are commented on by visitors to our school. At Lawrence it is our privilege and duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of all our children.

At Lawrence we aim to foster a caring, sharing environment where a total commitment to equality and opportunities permeates the whole curriculum.

We aim to provide a secure, happy and stimulating learning environment in which the talents and abilities of our children are recognised and nurtured. Everyone within our school is given opportunities to achieve their full potential in all aspects of intellectual, spiritual, moral, social and physical development.

Our school proudly takes its place in our local community and we establish strong links between our children and their families and friends promoting attitudes of mutual respect and responsibility.

At Lawrence Community Primary School we value and celebrate the diverse ethnic backgrounds of all our pupils and families and celebrate together the British Values that underpin our school, our city and our country. One of our key aims at Lawrence is to ensure that all of our children are equipped with the skills and attitudes to become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance, regardless of background. We are extremely proud to be a "School of Sanctuary".

We have a duty to ‘actively promote’ the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and we believe that this idea of fairness for all encourages an acceptance that people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself should be accepted and tolerated.

To support this aim we include in our curriculum, and in other aspects of school life, objectives and activities that develop an understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process. As a school, lucky enough to have children and families from very many different cultures and faiths, we promote a shared understanding as we all have the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs. This principle is protected in British law and is a proper requirement for any compassionate society.

We believe and promote through all our actions, both within the curriculum and throughout all our activities, that differences in faiths or beliefs should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour and as a school community we challenge any type of discrimination that we identify.

We undertake a variety of events and lessons throughout our curriculum and through all areas of our school life that help us celebrate together, share and learn together all about these and all about each other.

Our Curriculum is always evolving and changing and we are tweaking it again this year to make sure we fit in all aspects of the New National Curriculum. Our Reception and Nursery classes follow a continuous provision curriculum that responds to the experiences and ideas from our youngest children.
