Alsop High School

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Alsop High School. At Alsop, we are able to offer a diverse curriculum ensuring that the individual needs of all students are met. We are a school of first choice and our aim is to provide a high quality education for all our students by offering first class facilities that support outstanding learning and teaching.

This has been recognised by the numerous awards we have received in recent years celebrating our success and the success of our students. We constantly strive to improve our standards further; developing strategies and initiatives to provide support and guidance, leading to the achievement of students of all abilities.

Our curriculum design guarantees our students receive the individualised education they deserve and our continual strive for excellence means nothing but the best will do. We want our students to be successful and so work to create a partnership with parents, as by working together, our students will benefit and flourish.

A fabulous new building has been created, housing specialist facilities for English, Humanities and Modern languages, together with a Sixth Form Centre and a new restaurant area.

The older part of the school, built in 1926, has now been totally refurbished and extensive landscaping of the school grounds has been completed. Our building is unique and something of which we are very proud. These wonderful new facilities compliment our Sports Centre, ICT and Music, Art and Drama areas which have also been built in recent years.

The Building Schools for the Future programme has allowed us to invest in high quality learning environments and access the latest technology to support the development and achievement of students of all abilities. With over 1600 PCs and laptops, interactive whiteboards in every room, ultra fast broadband access and the latest software, our students have the latest technology to support their development and success.

We pride ourselves upon our commitment to recognising and addressing the educational needs of all our students. Ensuring access to a broad and balanced curriculum, whilst supporting them in academic progression and examination success. As well as academic achievement there is a focus on developing teamwork, independent learning and presentation skills to ensure students possess the skills to be lifelong learners. We aim to support students, who at times have difficulty accessing aspects of the curriculum. These difficulties may be physical, emotional, behavioural or academic. It is our duty to provide for these needs, treating each student as an individual.

At Alsop all want what is best for the students and realise that it is increasingly difficult for parents and students to choose the correct options. Our students benefit from high quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance, allowing informed decisions to be made. Our careers conventions, options evenings, parents evenings and review days are extremely popular and we aim to ensure that every student feels supported in their future choices.

Alsop High School is the largest school in the city, with almost 1800 students on roll, including around 380 in the Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form offers the most diverse range of post-16 subjects of all the Liverpool secondary schools, with a mixture of the more traditional A Level subjects and a wide range of Level 3 BTEC courses.

Alsop High School gives students the chance to continue their studies in Liverpool’s biggest purpose-built, state-of-the-art Sixth Form centre, which includes an IT-equipped study area and a Cyber Café. The School also provides an exciting enrichment programme, incorporating lessons in academic writing, political literacy, debating, ICT in Modern Britain, personal finance and nutrition.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, volunteering certificate and Higher Sports Leaders Award are all offered to older students encouraging social skills, confidence and teamwork.

Our commitment to our students is evident not just in the exceptional surroundings but also in the strong pastoral Sixth Form team which includes an Assistant Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form, two Assistant Heads of Year and a Sixth Form Admin Manager. This team works together to offer both pastoral and academic support throughout Key Stage 5. Extensive guidance is given for those applying for university with regular UCAS support sessions and trips to universities. Each year a large number of students to on to university or higher education; something the School is very proud of.
