At Battlefield Primary, we aim to provide a nurturing, safe place where each child can grow in confidence and understanding, developing skills for life through a stimulating, learning environment. We foster academic, artistic, dramatic and musical development, sporting ability and loyalty to both the school and our community. Battlefield Primary is a non-denominational school. We are proud to be a Rights Respecting School and strive to ensure that the Articles in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child underpin our school values.

The National Parent Forum of Scotland has prepared a graphic illustration of the Curriculum for Excellence Learner Journey in response to parental requests for clear explanations of Curriculum for Excellence. There are two versions - the full colour one, and a printer friendly version. We all know that homework can be a source of tension in the home for a number of reasons. Even if you do not know much about the subject, you can still offer support in different ways.

  • Show an interest in what they are doing and encourage them to talk about it.
  • Ask them to explain the things you don't know about.
  • Listen to what they are saying.
  • Show your pride by acknowledging their successes.
  • Try not to compare them negatively to others – either older or younger brothers and sisters or other children in their class. This will discourage rather than motivate.
  • If they need support, encourage them to think about how they can find answers for themselves. This will help them more than doing the work for them. Overcoming difficulties and solving problems is one of the ways we learn.
  • They shouldn't need to spend all their time on school work. Encourage them to have other interests. A balance of leisure activities, time with friends and family and school work is important.
