The English College Dubai has become the latest school to offer a reduction in fees for the third term.
The move comes just a week after it was announced by the UAE’s Ministry of Education that distance learning for all schools and universities would continue until the end of the current academic year in response to the exceptional circumstances surrounding the coronavirus, and the UAE’s efforts to curb its spread.
Principal Mark Ford revealed that fees for term three will be reduced by AED2,250 from FS1 through to Year 2; while there will be a AED1,750 reduction for Years 3 to 13.
He said: “Given that we are trying to balance the best interests of the school, parents and of course students, we have reached decisions based on savings the school can afford to pass on to parents through fee discounts for term 3.
“We do appreciate the economic pain and resulting anxieties people are experiencing; this has been a key foundation in our thinking and approach as we have analysed what we can and what we cannot afford to do.”
Parents who have already paid the fees in full will receive a credit of the discount for the term one fee for the new academic year after the summer break.
So far there have been no reductions announced for education establishments from providers such as Etisalat, KHDA, MoE, Dubai Municipality, and the Dubai Civil Defense.
“I hope the discounts are an indication of our commitment to easing the burden on families at this time,” he said, adding that fees can also be paid in three instalments.
The English College is one of the most established schools in the UAE, with more than 25 years of history. The school has not increased its fees for the last two years and has vowed not to increase them for the coming academic year; while last year fees were reduced in all year groups in primary.
“Despite this we have, and will, continue to improve our facilities and resources to ensure our children continue to enjoy a world class education,” added Ford.
