In SPM we value knowledge as an important aspect of a child's development. Knowledge opens up a horizon of all the 'secrets' the world has and bring the child to an enlightenment of what the universe is able to offer her. The blended curriculum we have designed provides the students with a combination of approaches to understanding how the world works. Using the National curriculum and combining it with the world class curriculum as Cambridge will provide your child with a broad understanding of knowledge.

SPM values the child's opinion understands that there is more than 1 answer for a problem. We encourage students to find the solution as well as identifying the problem. By doing so the skills of identifying and solving problems are developed. In explaining their opinion the child also develops their ability to express one self and how to communicate effectively. In SPM it is through the usage of both Bahasa Indonesia and English.

In the classroom, the teachers used the Quality Tools, a set of approaches to learning. Students learn to do research, come up with answers which have been checked from every angle and much more. Methodologies in approaching a situation are presented and whatever the situation is they will have a strategy for it. That is what learning skills are about.

In this world we are not by yourself, we deal with people around us. There are norms and values that we have to follow if you are living in a society. In SPM students develop these values through a well-developed program, The Leader in Me which is part of the world known 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Methodically the values are implanted in students.

Upon exiting the school we hope that our graduates will be able to show a well-balanced development of sufficient knowledge shown through a good set of skills by a person who has noble values to base her or his life upon.

That is what this school is about, a complete package to equip your child in facing their future.

SPM has achieved the honour of being the first Lighthouse school outside of the USA. We have implemented the Leader in Me program since 2009 and our students have been enjoying its success. The journey to a Lighthouse school has meant that we have applied the Leader in Me to the highest standards and we continue this journey to new heights.

The Leader in Me is a whole-school transformation model that acts like the operating system of a computer—it improves the performance of all other programs. Based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to thrive in the 21st-century economy.

What would be possible if your school were filled with students who were responsible, who showed initiative, who were creative, who knew how to set goals and meet them, who got along with people of various backgrounds and cultures, and who could resolve conflicts and solve problems?

This is a reality at Leader in Me schools across the country. It started in 1999 when struggling school A.B. Combs Elementary was asked to reinvent itself or be shut down. When Principal Muriel Summers asked parents and business leaders what they wanted in their schools, she heard the following:

  • Leadership
  • Accountability
  • Adaptability
  • Initiative and Self-Direction
  • Cross-Cultural Skills
  • Responsibility
  • Problem Solving
  • Communication
  • Creativity
  • Teamwork

This feedback represents what most people believe — that our schools should not merely be focused on improving test scores, but should provide opportunities for students to develop their full potential. As Muriel searched for answers, she attended a 7 Habits workshop and noticed how comprehensive the habits were in covering the same needs expressed by her community. She and staff developed a leadership theme and a school mission statement: To Develop Leaders, One Child at a Time. They taught the 7 Habits not as a curriculum, but in a ubiquitous fashion, integrating them into the curriculum, traditions, systems, and culture of A.B. Combs.

As Muriel Summers, principal of A.B. Combs Elementary sat among business leaders, she could not help but wonder why the 7 Habits were not taught to young people.

In 2006, A.B. Combs became the #1 magnet school in the country. The leadership model began to be replicated by other schools with similar results. In 2008, Dr. Stephen R. Covey published the book The Leader in Me, which documents the leadership model these schools pioneered and its outcomes for staff, students, parents, and the community.

The second publication of this book also highlights the achievements of SPM and its continued journey.

Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) School has grown to offer classes from Kindergarten, Elementary to Junior and Senior High school grades.A unique characteristic of Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri (SPM) is its Student-Centered and Inquiry-Based approach and a balance between character development and academic achievement through The Leader in Me program.

One of the famous quotes from the great Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle is: "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all".In education, there are 3 domains to be developed, cognitive, psychomotor and affective or in more friendly terms, knowledge, skills and attitude. They are the focus of why schools exist and why students come to school. At school students learn things, based on the curriculum decided to be used by the school, they are assessed and scored for every subject they learnt.

Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri’s vision is to be a principle-centered school that develops academic excellence and lifelong learning skills in an engaged community.Sekolah Perkumpulan Mandiri educators, using effective teaching and learning strategies that blend the National and Cambridge International curricula, maximize opportunities for students to actualize their potential and become lifelong learners in a safe and inspiring environment.

We value integrity and hold ourselves accountable for the quality of our teaching and learning programs and all aspects of the operations that support our commitments. We value self-respect and respect for others to build strong relationships that foster a compassionate community. We engage in lifelong learning to give individuals the capacity for continuous improvement.

We implement an integration of the national curriculum with international standards and expectations. Learning programs are skillfully integrated to allow students to develop understanding, of concepts and their applications in daily life. Using Bahasa Indonesian and English as the medium of instruction, students are prepared to follow both national and global pathways.

The national curriculum is stipulated based on the national education standards to ensure the achievement of National Education Goals. The goal of basic education is to develop learners’ basic intelligence, knowledge, personality, noble character, as well as skills to live independently and to continue their education.

National education standards consist of standard content, process, the value of graduates, teaching staff, facilities, management, fees, and scores. The curriculum is basically developed based on diversified principles related to the educational unit, regional potential, and the learners. The standard learning process consists of exploration, elaboration, and confirmation.

With the implementation of KTSP 2006, competence standard of graduates focuses on the knowledge aspect. Moreover, thematic learning process applies for Grade 1 until Grade 3.

The basic framework of curriculum and competencies are Religion and noble character, Citizenship and personality, Science and technology, Aesthetics, Physical, sport, and health.
