A very warm welcome to Elonera Montessori School (EMS), its staff, students and parent/carer community.

With a high commitment to the Montessori Philosophy and Method, EMS proudly offers an education that is founded on the Montessori principles of education and has done so for over 30 years.

EMS has been a part of education in the Illawarra region since its foundation in 1987. Since then the school has continued to grow from a small classroom in Gwynneville, to a dynamic campus incorporating a Parent-Toddler programme, Nido, Children’s House, Primary programme and Adolescent programme (Years 7-10). I am pleased to say that EMS is an IB World School, offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme for Years 11 and 12 and is an excellent match with Montessori.

For us, guiding children, working collaboratively and in partnership with like-minded colleagues, and families, to build an excellent Montessori school, where children can truly thrive and find themselves, is a passion.

The patient guidance of Elonera Montessori educators, the support and warmth for their students and spirit of kindness, provides children with the gentle way to learn and ultimately lead to a world-class education without stress, unnecessary pressure and needless competition found in most schools. Elonera Montessori School is a place where young minds can grow organically, in an unhurried atmosphere of inquiry and discovery. Curiosity is the desire to learn. It is an eagerness to explore, discover and figure things out. Children and adolescent at EMS can have the space and freedom to do so. A strong and vibrant school, we will continue to strive for excellence in Montessori practises and support our staff to be able to assist our children to become the best they can be.

The primary and secondary school follows the NSW Education Standards Authority and the Australian Curriculum for Years K-10, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11-12, the National Quality Framework for the Preschool (Early Years Learning Framework) and Outside of School Hours Care (My Time Our Place). The National Montessori Curriculum (endorsed by ACARA) was additionally adopted in 2014 for Years K-10.
