Ysgol Gynradd Calon Y Cymoedd is a Primary school situated in the Garw Valley, South Wales. We provide bilingual education for Cwm Garw and Cwm Ogwr pupils. We offer a happy and caring environment where your child can feel safe and secure. The education we provide is carefully matched to the learning needs of individual children. Our aim is to provide a warm, welcoming and happy environment where pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential and develop into responsible citizens.

Pupils in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and 2 follow The Foundation Phase guidelines which allow children to develop individual skills and also to work in ability/mixed ability groups. Emphasis is placed on Language, Literacy and Communication Skills, Personal and Social Development, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development, all of which are assessed on an individual basis throughout the child's time in the department.

Pupils work, as far as possible, in year groups, although constraints on staffing and pupil numbers mean that many classes may have a two year age-range. All pupils work to their individual capability and, therefore, within such a class each child /group will work to their own individual level as dictated by the Statutory Orders of the National Curriculum. At times work will be arranged as whole class teaching, or according to ability groups, or individually as the need may arise. Work for exceptionally able children, and those with learning difficulties will be planned according to the needs of the individual.
