Afon Y Felin Primary School was opened in 1977 to serve the area which now included the Marlas estate in North Cornelly. The school is just off Junction 37. The school has extensive grounds, including a rugby field, environmental area, trim trail, multi-surface court, an outdoor learning space in our 'Castle' and an orchard at the rear of the school grounds. There is ample parking with established gardens and a large playing area.
We are a mainstream primary school and have a commitment to inclusive education and strive to maintain a high quality teaching and learning environment for all children.
There are currently 141 pupils on role who are educated in 6 classes. Situated behind the school there is a Flying Start building which provides pre school learning and care for children 0-3 years.
Here at Afon Y Felin Primary we are working hard to imrpove our school year by year, and we do this through the School Improvement Plan (SIP), a unique plan, refined annually, that defines a school’s targeted work to raise achievement for all of its students. These plans are the driving force behind the theory of change in our district’s strategic framework.
We would like to share with you our unique SIP, that has had an input from staff, families, community members and district administration. Each plan includes a set of key strategies aimed at measurable, research-based goals, monitored throughout the year, in the following five areas:
Information Communication and Technology (ICT) plays an important role of a child's journey through Afon y Felin Primary. Your child will experience a wealth of technology as they move upwards through the school. We have a range of digital tablets, including Kindle Fires and iPads, and we also have a state of the art all-in-one desktop PCs in our library and ICT suites.
