Schools in New Zealand observe four terms for both state and Maori-medium schools. Maori medium schools are called kura. These kuras and other schools may have some lenience with the start and finish dates of each school term.
Public holidays in New Zealand are also observed by schools. During this time, schools are closed. School holidays, therefore, consist of cultural, national, and other religious holidays observed by New Zealanders.
