Schools in New Zealand observe four terms for both state and Maori-medium schools. Maori medium schools are called kura. These kuras and other schools may have some lenience with the start and finish dates of each school term.

New Year’s Day & Day after New Year’s Day

Waitangi Day
Waitangi Day is the national day of New Zealand. It commemorates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6 February 1840. The holiday is marked with ceremonies that takes place in Waitangi. This is considered as the founding document of New Zealand.

It is a day of remembrance in New Zealand to remember all New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations”. It’s a day to remember their contributions and sufferings.
Queen’s Birthday
The Queen’s Birthday is celebrated in New Zealand every first Monday of June each year. The country is a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as the reigning monarch.
Labor Day
The struggle to achieve an 8-hour working day is what Labor Day remembers. They were the first in the world to claim the right in 1840 because of Samuel Parnell.

Boxing Day
Boxing Day occurs the day after Christmas each year. Today, it is considered as an extension of Christmas holidays.
