Job Summary

University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, yearly renewable Teaching Professor of Chemistry. The Teaching Professor position is renewable on a yearly basis, with the potential after six years for promotion to Senior Teaching Professor with a rolling two-year renewable contract.

The successful candidate will join Xavier faculty in the 500-year-old Jesuit Catholic tradition of academic excellence in the liberal arts serving a diverse population of students. Xavier’s location in Cincinnati allows faculty to work with community partners to develop engaged learning and internship opportunities. Xavier is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities as well as the Big East. For twenty years in a row, the U.S. News and World Report has ranked Xavier University among the top 10 Midwest colleges and universities.

Position Responsibilities:

Duties will include teaching laboratory and lecture courses in general chemistry and, when needed, upper level courses in the candidate’s area of specialty. The equivalent of fifteen contact hours per week is expected. Service and participation in the life of the Department and the University consistent with the mission of Jesuit higher education are also expected.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Education, or related disciplines, with a specialty in analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, or physical chemistry.
  • Experiences that demonstrate a commitment to excellence in student-centered teaching and active learning.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, colleagues, university administrators, and the community.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience developing laboratory exercises for students that demonstrate the concepts of chemistry. The Department of Chemistry is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community.
