Job Summary

The Assistant Director has Teaching Professor status is responsible for program leadership, oversight, and management of ABSN program in the Cleveland site of the College of Nursing.  The Assistant Director oversees matters relating to the admissions, practicum curriculum delivery and program continuity and delivery, benchmarking and evaluation, accreditation data gathering and regulatory compliance for site. The Assistant Director will assure effective deployment of resources to accomplish the goals and objectives of the program track.  The Assistant Director serves as the point person for communication between University- Cincinnati and the site and ensures that practicum (lab and clinical) are aligned with the didactic courses and delivered as designed.  This individual will cultivate and develop networks that lead to new collaborations and opportunities within Columbus and act as local spokesperson for the program when needed. The Assistant Director reports to the Associate Director of the ABSN program of the College of Nursing in fulfilling these position responsibilities.

The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) Program Track is a 16 month, second degree program.  The curriculum is aligned with the BSN traditional program and adapted for the second degree population.  The curriculum has a hybrid delivery, with didactic courses delivered online through our Cincinnati campus, with lab and simulation curriculum delivered in our Cleveland facility with clinical placements in local and regional sites.

Qualification:

Holds a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a graduate degree in nursing from an accredited program within a regionally accredited college or university, doctoral degree preferred.

  • Holds a current, active, unencumbered RN license in the state of Ohio.
  • A minimum of seven years in the nursing practice with evidence of systems-level outcomes, a minimum of two years full time teaching experience, and leadership in a regionally accredited nursing program, at baccalaureate level or higher preferred.
  • Evidence of excellent communication, strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Evidence of curriculum development or revision, varied methods of teaching, and evaluation processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of current research and scholarship, that is supportive to the professional development of nursing.
  • Familiar with current advances in technology to enhance the educational experience of students. Online teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities: 

Academic Leadership 50 %:

  • Promotes University and School of Nursing Mission and Vision with faculty, staff, and students at the Cleveland site.
  • Provides collaborative academic leadership and oversight for the ABSN nursing program in Cleveland.
  • Works with the College of Nursing Curriculum Committee and Leadership in the College of Nursing to set program benchmarks; conducts programmatic reviews in conjunction with the College of Nursing admissions, curriculum, progression, evaluation, and accreditation guidelines.
  • Oversees academic advising and addresses student questions and concerns.
  • Works with Student success coach and Cincinnati team to link students with the appropriate services and guidance.
  • May teach or act as course lead on one or more courses.
  • Consults with course leads, Associate Director of ABSN and the Director of the College of Nursing in the hiring and evaluation of the full time faculty and part-time instructors as appropriate.

Program Quality Assurance 25%:

Ensures academic integrity of the program track and compliance with the College of Nursing, University, and state and national accreditation standards/guidelines.

  •  Leads and oversees quality improvement initiatives and the implementation of best practices in pedagogy and curriculum.
  • Communicates frequently with the Associate Director, faculty, and Clinical Faculty Coordinator to ensure that the delivery of the practicum courses and academic support are aligned with the didactic courses and follow course design.
  • Regularly meets with communities of interest (students, clinical partners, future employers, and faculty) for input on improving program delivery.
  • Ongoing risks/opportunities are identified, communicated appropriately for attention, and addressed,
  • Internal issues are effectively and efficiently addressed within University, and
  • Actively communicates and reports findings to the larger program and nursing teams in a timely manner.

Program Coordination 25%:

Collaborates with all University team leaders and strategic partners:

  •  Collects, stores, and organizes data necessary for accreditation and regulatory bodies.
  • Oversee new student orientation.
  • Maintains student records, compliant with FERPA, and oversees the storage and communication with the main campus.
  • Oversees the timely communication with students or on the behalf of students (completion letters, etc.)
  • Works with the appropriate College of Nursing and University Committees to develop and convey policy pertaining the Cleveland site of the ABSN nursing program track.
  • Implements relevant University and College of Nursing policies, including Professional Behavior Policy.
