Job Summary

A full-time position as professor/associated professor in Sports Biomechanics is available at the Institute of Physical Performance at Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH).

The department is seeking to appoint a highly skilled and motivated professor/associated professor to provide academic teaching, and to conduct and coordinate research within the field of Sports Biomechanics at NIH. The candidate must have a strong international research profile in sports research and topics that fits with the profile and the present equipment at the department.

The candidate is expected to demonstrate experience and skills in the following topics a) analysis of kinematic measurements, e.g. from optical, inertial and/or wireless active sensors, b) analysis of kinetic measurements, e.g. from force transducers, force platforms isokinetic, dynamometry and/or inertial systems, c) electromyography. Experience with computer simulation is a desirable additional skill. The candidate should therefore have a strong background in advanced quantitative analyses of human movement, substantial experience with computer programming, and a good command of the mathematics and physics necessary to approach these problems.

The candidate must be able to document high quality research as well as significantly teaching and supervision experience at bachelor and master level. Experience and skills in research involving external research groups, sports federations and industry will be highlighted in the evaluation of the candidates.

Selection criteria

When assessing applicants, emphasis will be placed on:

  • Quality, relevance and scope of the scientific work
  • Relevance and scope of teaching and supervision at bachelor, master and Ph.D. level
  • Experience and skills in research involving external collaboration
  • Other documented qualifications relevant to the position, such as the ability to attract external funding and public dissemination of the research
  • The applicants interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in oral and written English is required. Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in a Scandinavian language, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of commencement.

A prerequisite for permanent appointment is that the applicant meets the requirements for university teaching competence. Applicants without formal university pedagogic qualification, is given the opportunity for an approved course within two years employment.

Working conditions

Salary is offered according to the Norwegian State pay scale, employment code 1013/1011. The appointment will be made according to terms applying to civil servants. The NSSS is a member of the Norwegian State Pension Fund. Working place is the Institute of Physical Performance at NIH.
