The Faculty of Health- and Social Sciences has a vacancy for a three-year 100% position as professor in Architectural Lighting Design, for the period 3 years. The appointment can be extended, but that presupposes external financing. The position is affiliated with the Department of Optometry, Radiography and Lighting Design and co-affiliated with the Department of Science and Industry Systems at the Faculty of Technology, Natural Sciences and Maritime Sciences. The immediate superior is the Head of the Department of Optometry, Radiography and Lighting Design and the place of employment is Kongsberg.
Architectural Lighting Design at University of South-Eastern Norway (USN) promotes a multidisciplinary perspective on human needs and sustainability, ranging from perception to systems development and technology implementation. The successful applicant will have a leading role in bridging different disciplines at USN – Kongsberg: Architectural Lighting Design, Systems Engineering and Optometry with an aim to design and study urban light spaces at night and to research on how to optimize such designs from perspectives related to both person-oriented engagement and environmental sustainability.
The employment involves both research and lecturing/supervision at both basic and advanced level within the Architectural Lighting Design program. The role of the educator includes supervision, teaching and mentoring of students including examination, course responsibility, and program development. The area of architectural lighting design is central to USN’s development of Master programs within visual sciences and the Faculty of health and social sciences’ PhD program. It is expected that the appointed professor in Architectural Lighting Design will contribute actively to the development of post graduate programs. The successful applicant will be the supervisor for two PhD candidates who will carry out research related to urban lighting design.
Research topics include architectural lighting design, person-oriented design, and systems development for safety, sustainability and human needs. The successful applicant is expected to be actively engaged in the field of architectural lighting design, to contribute to the further development of existing and new external partnership, and to contribute to the development of national and international networks. The appointed professor shall initiate and lead research programs in close collaboration with international and USN researchers.
The position may involve teaching at all levels of the educational cycle within your department, and at other departments. For the University, distance learning and e-learning are target areas, and the candidate must therefore be able to provide supervision and teaching via digital media
Professor with a PhD and a research portfolio within architectural lighting design, preferably with a focus on the urban environment and a methodological background that allows for design and evaluation of how particular designs may affect engagement, activity and behavior.
The successful applicant should have a broad and solid background and research expertise in architectural lighting design and/or intelligent lighting, person oriented design and/or systems engineering. He/she must be able to document expertise in one or more areas of research.

The candidate must be motivated and demonstrate a proven ability to work effectively within a team and in a collegiate manner to formulate and realize common objectives. Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized.
For employment as a Professor, a scientific level is required in accordance with established international or national standards. The successful applicant must have an excellent command of written and spoken English. It may be considered an advantage that the applicant also master at least one Scandinavian language, but it is not a requisite.
