Job Summary

Two to three permanent 100 % positions are available at the University of Agder, Faculty of Social Science, as Professor/Associate Professor in sociology, at the Department of Sociology and Social work. The position is located at Campus Kristiansand. The starting date is negotiable with the Faculty.

Responsibilities

The positions will be related to teaching and supervision in sociology. Assignments in continued education (EVU) could also be included in this position. Those who are hired will become part of a staff that is responsible for the departments teaching needs and must be expected to contribute in fields outside of the nucleus of their own competence, and also partake in administrative assignments. Research time will be assigned after the university’s and department’s principals.

Required qualifications

The criteria of employment are pursuant to the Regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts. Criteria for educational competence for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor at UiA.

Those hired will be expected to contribute actively to strengthen the department’s research in one or several areas like childhood and adolescence, education, class, culture, deviation, inequality, climate and welfare. Other fields of research may also be of interest. Candidates for the position should have a breadth of methodological competence. At least one applicant should have knowledge of quantitative methods. Those hired are expected to contribute to long term development of the research community and applications for external funding for the department. In addition to this, the following is required:

  • PhD in sociology or equivalent
  • Teaching or educational experience.
  • Documented experience with research- and development work at a high level

The working language at the University of Agder is Norwegian. One of the successful candidates must have a good command of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, both written and oral. Fluency in written and oral English is a prerequisite. The University of Agder offers Norwegian language courses to international employees with little or no knowledge of Norwegian and facilitates participation in such courses. Permanently employed staff are expected to have learnt Norwegian within a period of two years, and this is to be documented by passing the Bergenstest.
