The Faculty of Humanities and Teacher Education (AHL) at Volda University College, Norway has vacancies of up to 200 % as Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in English language and didactic in its Department of Language and Literature.
The position includes teaching topics in language and language learning covered on the college’s teacher-training programs, such as grammar, phonetics, varieties of English, pragmatics and English in the classroom. It also involves following up students whilst they are working in schools during their practice periods. It is important that applicants are versatile and flexible, and that they can adapt to a variety of work tasks and student groups. The position could also involve some teaching in the Bachelor Program in Language and Literature. Research will largely be expected to take place within the field of teacher training.
The applicant must possess at least an MA in language and should document relevant education or experience within English language teaching and learning. To be employed as Associate Professor, the applicant must have a relevant Doctoral degree; to be employed as Assistant Professor, the applicant must have a relevant MA degree.
Applicants unable to document pedagogic competency may be employed on the condition that they obtain the necessary competency within the span of two years. Training/courses in college-level pedagogy will be offered. The language of instruction is English. It is an advantage to be able to communicate fluently in a Scandinavian language. Employees lacking this competency must obtain the ability to communicate professionally in Norwegian within three years.
For this position, the ability to cooperate with others is crucial, and so is the ability to work independently. Communicative skills are vital. The department of language and literature encourages and accommodates research. Applicants that provide realistic plans for ongoing and future research will be prioritized; plans to achieve Doctoral competency are welcomed in cases where the applicant has an MA.
