Job Summary

The Program Director will promote excellence in research and teaching in Translation and Interpreting within the department and lead the design and implementation of a revised curriculum for the suite of Translation and Interpreting courses at Macquarie University. He or she will work closely with program directors in the other programs in the department and in other departments, the Head of Department, the Deputy Heads of Department, and Macquarie International in the strategic management of the Translation and Interpreting program. The role of director will be for a renewable 3-year term. The academic appointment will be continuing.

Requirements

Your strong leadership competencies include the ability to implement complex changes to curricula and strategic planning to meet market needs and to recruit high quality domestic and international students. You will have experience leading and innovating a postgraduate program in Translation and Interpreting, and teaching in specialist units consistent with the suite of courses and units on offer at Macquarie. You will proficient in the use of contemporary translation and/or interpreting technology and you integrate this technology into curriculum. You have made innovative contributions in pedagogy, teaching practice and/or curriculum development and your research interest align with the research discipline of Translation and Interpreting. Ideally you will have an intimate knowledge of the Australian Higher Education sector.

  • Academic Level D or Level E in accordance to Macquarie’s minimum standards for academic levels (msals) in Teaching and Research and Macquarie’s academic promotion criteria schedule.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the T&I discipline including; Curriculum, teaching and assurance of learning and quality best practice. Key recruitment markets and opportunities
  • Trends in T&I post-graduate programs including available and emerging technologies
  • An established high-profile research track record in the discipline of Translation and Interpreting and the demonstrated ability to secure grant funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the development and implementation of major curriculum initiatives and/or redesign in the discipline of T&I and establish effective continual review and improvement practices;
  • Commitment to building a research profile within the T&I discipline and demonstrated capability to provide mentorship to early career researchers.
  • Significant experience providing leadership including direct supervision and management of staff to enable a collegial and supportive working environment across an academic discipline.
  • A proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues and develop strong links with relevant industry professional organisations and communities both domestically and internationally.
