The Mass Communication Program at the American University of Ras al Khaimah seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor. We welcome candidates whose teaching ensures student success, whose research employs quantitative, qualitative, rhetorical, or mixed methods, and whose service is undertaken to promote their citizenship in the School and University.
A balance between research/scholarship, instruction, and service will be required for continued professional advancement. The teaching load is eight courses per year (a 4/4 load) at the undergraduate level. Candidates are expected to have experience in promoting active learning by students through the use of high-impact educational practices. The program currently offers a B.A. degree. Candidates must be prepared to teach classes required by the major curriculum (degree plan) as well as electives including methods and content courses appropriate to their teaching and research interests. Ideal candidates will have experience with, and interest in, teaching classes designated as Writing-Intensive. Service expectations include participating in school and university committees and contributing to the discipline through involvement with professional associations.
The successful candidate will have had experience in developing undergraduate degree programs which have obtained ACEJMC accreditation. As part of preparing for accreditation of the Mass Communication Program, it is anticipated that the program will be reconfigured as part of a Department of Communication and Media Studies and will offer specialization options in communication studies, journalism and mass communication, and public relations. We seek candidates with expertise and research interests in crisis reporting; rhetoric and critical/cultural studies; public relations campaigns; social media and social movements; digital media and communications; and intercultural dynamics and globalization, among others.
Ph.D. in communication studies or closely related field, relevant teaching experience with evidence of use of high-impact educational practices, and a coherent research agenda with a record of indexed scholarly publications. History of working effectively with globally diverse student populations, and demonstrated experience with ACEJMC accreditation.
