Heritage Academy, founded in 1990, is an independent, co-educational, evangelical, non-denominational Christian school offering the full spectrum of grades from R to 12. The medium of instruction is English. The school has official registration through the Department of Education of KwaZulu-Natal and is an active participant in the Association of Christian Schools International (ASCI).
We place great emphasis on both missions and community service: our learners are encouraged to be a part of mission teams travelling both overseas and within Africa, while locally they are regularly involved in local projects such as collecting food, clothes and gifts for orphanages and disadvantaged preschools as well as ministering to old-age homes. Germany, Madagascar, Australia, New Zealand, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland, Indonesia, Singapore and Kenya are among the countries visited. Such exposure results in major transformation in the lives of the learners, impacting them forever and providing fertile soil for leaders, who will play a meaningful role in our changing world, to develop.
We set and achieve high academic standards, but more than that, we aim to instil in our learners a genuine curiosity and desire to engage with both their academic material and the world around them.
One of the vehicles through which learners have shared their faith with passion and excitement across the world has been the dance and song production Dumisani ma-Afrika, a message of reconciliation between people and God and among people themselves. We offer a range of cultural activities such as speech contests (isiZulu and English), Choir, Ballet and Ballroom dancing.
At Heritage Academy our sports awards are based not only on success on the sports field, but also on leadership skills, participation, peer-encouragement, the learner's application of the code of conduct, Christian spiritual maturity and eligibility to represent the school. Essentially, a well-rounded winner is the perfect candidate for our annual sports award.
Heritage Academy is grounded on sound Christian principles. Aiming to break away from the idea that Christianity is boring and irrelevant, the school aims to impact the lives of the learners, allowing each learner to believe that he/she is important, and can make a difference — in their own lives, their homes, their communities and the world. Heritage Academy stands for both academic excellence and a concern for all people.During our missions, learners have been seen to grow and develop spiritually and emotionally as they broaden their perspective and experience of other cultures and communities.
Heritage Academy is situated close to the Botanical Gardens in the flower city of Pietermaritzburg, in the suburb of Prestbury. Heritage Academy is ideal for those who want smaller classes with individual attention - encompassed in a Christian Ethos. We're grounded in the granite of God's Word and enthused about the potential of our pupils and teachers. At Heritage Academy generally our classes, which run from Grade R to Grade 12, are comparatively small and our teachers are sincerely dedicated to every individual child. Academic results have been outstanding from our very first matric class a few years ago.
At Heritage Academy we encourage our learners to get involved in sport, cultural and other extra-curricular activities, as they are an important ingredient in the development of well rounded young people. We offer a host of different sporting and cultural activities guided by passionate teachers.
It is our conviction that education is not only a worthwhile, but an School Life exciting pursuit - packed with challenges and opportunities!
