We are a unique learning community, a place for children in Grades 4-12 to pursue academic excellence while striving to reach their full athletic potential. We accommodate the training requirements of a wide range of sports and disciplines, and offer high performance training in dance, golf, figure skating, hockey and soccer as well as providing busy student-athletes in sports such as luge, equestrian, skiing, swimming, tennis, rugby, gymnastics and core training, the opportunity to craft a flexible schedule which meets all their needs.

Balancing athletics and academics helps our students translate success from one area into another. Through that process, they gain confidence. We further their personal growth by incorporating character development into our educational experience. Indeed, character-building is woven into our very fabric.

Edge School’s innovative commitment to this balanced three-sphere philosophy – academics, athletics and character development – ensures graduates are equipped to excel in all areas. We watch for, and intentionally take advantage of, every opportunity to develop our students’ life skills. That may be as part of our Student Leadership Society, our Mountain teams or our everyday attention to the virtues of teamwork, compassion and humility – the hallmarks of great citizens and leaders.

We graduate young men and women fully prepared to take on the next stage in their lives – whether that stage be post-secondary studies, the work world or the sports world from the Western Hockey League, the Alberta Junior Hockey League to a professional dance troupe and all points in between.

Our mission is all about the pursuit of personal excellence. In order to facilitate this, we will create a school culture where continuous improvement is the norm; a culture where students and staff are excited to come to school; a culture where parents feel welcome and understand that they are critical partners in their child’s success at school; a culture where we do the right thing, especially when nobody is watching. This will certainly not be easy work but it is well worth the effort. You have my commitment that I will relentlessly pursue the creation of this school culture.

Active, healthy children are better learners. Movement serves to energize and activate the body, to improve focus, and to develop the brain. Physical activities develop fundamental movement skills and promote positive social interactions, increasing students’ competency and self-esteem. This leads to overall improved academic achievement.

We are committed to individual attention and small class sizes to ensure our unique programs remain focused on the development of each Edge student. We teach the critical thinking skills and learning strategies that students need in order to become independent life-long learners. As part of our holistic approach to student-athlete development, every Edge student is assisted with the development of a plan that is ultimately designed to provide students with understanding, and ownership of their academic, athletic, and personal goals.

Edge is very proud of its academic accomplishments and the quality of its 21st Century curriculum. A rigorous university preparatory program necessitates that a great deal of academic support is offered at every level to our students. With easy access to teachers, counselors and advisors, and a strong network of programs designed to help students throughout their time at Edge, students are able to easily find guidance, encouragement, and assistance.

Grades 4 to 9 make up our Junior Program. We recognize the big leap many of our incoming students take when entering Edge. Our staff is well-equipped to provide the support that our new students require. Sport Education combines sport-specific skill development (in basketball, hockey, soccer, golf, figure skating, and dance) as well as regular Phys Ed and strength & conditioning classes.

We encourage prospective (Grade 4 and 9) students to spend a day in the school “shadowing” one of our current students. Join their class in sport-specific training; sit in on English, math, science, and social; eat a great meal designed specifically for student-athletes in the cafeteria; and, even do a core work-out at the Duckett Performance Centre.

Edge provides a unique and balanced curriculum ensuring our students have a variety of options after graduation. Our students are welcomed by some of North America’s most prestigious post-secondary institutions including Harvard, Princeton, Brown, Yale, McGill and Queen’s. We help student-athletes evaluate the universities, leagues, and career paths that best fit their goals and needs – both academically and athletically. Through Career and Life Management, SAT preparation support, university application and scholarship guidance, student-athletes are assisted and encouraged by Edge staff.

We believe that positive recognition is a powerful tool for building character, encouraging a quest for excellence, and improving self-esteem and self-confidence. The recognition program provides opportunities for students to receive corrective feedback that can assist them in appropriate goal setting. It encourages students to monitor one another’s actions and helps to instill a sense of community and accountability with one’s peers. In addition to the recognition for academic excellence and character, we also celebrate success in Athletics with annual Athletic Awards.
