Schools in Dubai are scheduled to reopen in September, according to the emirate’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

However, education chiefs have warned “it’s still unknown what form this will take or whether that will change”.

Schools have been employing distance e-learning since they were forced to close at the end of March as a result of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier this month, the UAE Ministry of Education confirmed that distance learning would continue “for all education levels” through to the end of the current academic year.

With regard to the next academic year it said any decision “is still under review” and will be taken “based on the health situation and precautionary measures”.

However, the latest update on the KHDA website said: “We are working closely with our colleagues in the federal government, so that when a decision is made, it will be applicable to all schools in the UAE. We all hope to get schools open to students again as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

The UK Government is pressing for primary schools in England to reopen for some year groups from the start of June. Cabinet Office minister, Michael Gove, said: “The clear scientific and clinical advice is that it is safe to have schools reopen, accompanied with social distancing.”
