At Yew Chung International School of Qingdao (YCIS Qingdao), we are renowned for offering one of the most progressive and globally-minded programmes of international education in China.

Serving the Qingdao community since 2006, YCIS Qingdao is considered a leading international school in Qingdao. Our unique multicultural and bilingual education approach, with a focus on both English and Chinese language learning, is recognised globally, and helps distinguish our students in a globally competitive environment.

We accommodate the entire age range of Early Childhood Education (ECE), Primary, and Secondary students, from ages 2 to 18, from the diverse Qingdao expatriate community. As a school for expat children, our students come from over 30 countries and regions, and are educated by world-class teachers from more than 10 countries under our international curriculum that helps to create truly global-minded graduates.

YCIS Qingdao is a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS). Additionally, our Secondary Section is authorised as an accredited Cambridge International Examinations Centre, and we are the only school in China to have received the Cambridge Award for Excellence in Education.

YCIS Qingdao is accredited as an International Baccalaureate World School (IB). This enables YCIS Qingdao to offer the full IB Diploma Programme to our students in Years 12 and 13. The IBDP aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically.

At the root of our philosophy is the blend of two cultures, those of the East and West. We believe that in order to become competently bilingual, the real essence of a culture must not just be understood but truly valued. To this end, our Western and Chinese Co-Principals jointly lead their school. They represent the union of the East and West working closely alongside one another. Our unique Co-Teaching Model is implemented throughout Early Childhood and Primary year levels, which best supports the development of bilingual and cross-cultural skills. Our vibrant Chinese Studies Course, whose design is based upon extensive research, is integrated within the school curricula. Enriched with annual excursions to locations across China, the programme develops students’ cultural and historical appreciation of as well as a comprehensive portfolio of knowledge about their host country.
